ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF October 8, 2018
Welcome to Pleasant Union new 2nd grade teacher Jami Clark. She is excited to join the PUE family. Stop by to say hello and share your personal welcome.
UPCOMING CHANGES: Due to increased enrollment, both the K/1 and 2/3 combination classes have been collapsed to make room for more students on each K-3 grade level. This will allow us to keep the K-3 student teacher ratios within state guidelines. The changes will take place on Monday, October 8th.
WHAT WILL OCCUR:
Jami Clark, our new 2nd grade teacher will teach the 2nd graders from Ms. McNeeley's 2/3 combination in Mrs. McNeeley's former room on the 2/3 wing. She will follow the same schedule as Mr. Lamanna.
Ms. McNeeley will teach 3rd grade on the 4/5 hallway. Several of Ms. McKearney's class will join Ms. McNeeley's class. Ms. McNeeley will follow the 3rd grade schedule and will combine with Mrs. McKearney's class for specials.
Ms. Owens will teach Kindergarten in the same classroom and her 1st graders will join Ms. Rich's 1st grade. .Several kindergartners from other K classrooms will move to Ms. Owen's class.
4th Grade teachers will rotate rooms for the remainder of the school year between Ms. Hay's, Mrs. Potter's, and Mrs. Larson's current classrooms. ROTATION SCHEDULE
Lunch Assignment (Tables) may be different. Check the current Lunch Schedules for CHECK THE CURRENT LUNCH SCHEDULES FOR DETAILS.

PINEAPPLE WEEK IS COMING!!
We have some of the best teachers in Wake County under our own roof. Thank you in advance for Peggy Blocker for bringing the concept of Pineapple week Oct. 15th -19th to our school. Pineapple Week will give teachers the opportunity to get into each other's classrooms and learn from one another. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered. Peggy and Heather have set up a chart in the conference room listing the many interesting things they are doing in their classroom, activities they think other might want to observe. Please sign up to visit a classroom. I encourage those who do the observing to share the good things you see by talking to your team, complimenting the teacher or posting on social media.
Happy pineappling!

PLEASANT UNION OFF TO STRONG START FOR READvolution
As you can see, Pleasant Union is off to a strong start for READvolution. Keep encouraging your students to do their 20 minutes of reading and bringing in the titles so that we can post them on the front hockey rink. We are on our way for being in the running for hockey tickets
Remember that just like in 2017-18, this year’s challenge features both individual and school-wide components. Students who achieve the reading goal of 20 minutes per day throughout the allotted time frame (for a total of 800 minutes) will receive two complimentary ticket vouchers to a Hurricanes home game.
For the school-wide component, schools that collectively read 2,020 books between Sept. 24 and Nov. 16 will be entered into a drawing by region to participate in this year’s Cool School Field Trip to the PNC Arena in February 2019. If our school is selected from the drawing to attend the Cool School Field Trip, students will have the opportunity to see a Hurricanes practice, participate in fun activities, and hear from the players.
Schools that are selected for the 2018 Cool School Field Trip that achieve the 2,020 goal this year will have their names entered into the regional drawing once. Schools that were not selected in 2018 and achieve the 2,020 goal will have their names entered into the drawing twice.
Guides have been created to share with families and school staff to help log reading and books into the READvolution Dashboard. Go to video overview to find out how to log in new books. Also go to the following links for more parent information on READvolution and a "info sheet" on signing books in.
