Talking to your teen about responsible technology usage
However, it is critical to be in the know as to what your teen is doing and have ongoing conversation with your teen about responsible technology usage.
It is also important to remember that nowadays, actions on social media and text messaging can have lasting consequences- from denial to college admission and jobs to legal ramifications (for cyber bullying, threats, or inappropriate images to name a few). Sometimes teens say that they were "just joking" or "just kidding" but today's laws take all social media and digital communication seriously.
In order to help parents, here are a few resources to help you talk to your teen and also know what to look for:

Here at San Jose, we welcome and use technology, however, here are some reminders for all students and parents:
- All students are issued a school e-mail and access to the school's Google Suite, however, these are school property and misuse of these tools will result in disciplinary action
- Middle school students may not have cell phones during the school day. There is a designated cell phone drop off at the front office for students that do have cell phones they bring to school. They are to drop them off at the office before school and are dismissed a few minutes early at the end of the day to pick up their phones.
- High school students may carry their phones but may only use them during lunch- use during class and class changes is not permitted.
Acceptable Use of Technology
IDs
Also, students must have their IDs when leaving classrooms- they may not use another student's ID.
