Dangers of Plastic+Alternatives
By Bradley Beall
Earth's Plastic Demise
Plastic is becoming one of the most used materials in the world. We see the effect of this when looking in our world's ocean. This plastic buildup is hurting our oceans and the creatures in them. Some say we are already too late to save the environment. We have to find solutions now or we can wave goodbye to a healthy Earth.
Eco-friendly Substitutes for Plastic
Glass
Instead of buying plastic cartons, we could go back to the old days where the milk man would come to your house, and refill the glass bottles. That way we wouldn't use so much plastic.
Reusable Shopping Bags
Plastic bags are a big contributor to the plastic problem. We need to switch to these if we want to save our oceans, since this is a main issue. Many people are already using these bags and it's already helping the environment.
Chicken Feathers
Call me crazy but there is a fully biodegradable plastic that can be made from Chicken Feathers. The protein that is found in the feathers called keratin that can be melted down to create a plastic. That plastic is much stronger than the everyday plastic we use now. We have a chicken feather problem now that this solution could fix.
Solution
The solution to this plastic problem is very simple, and that solution is to cut down on our use of plastic products. If we can make the switch to the alternative objects I listed above, it would help the situation tremendously. I know it is impossible to completely get rid of plastic but we can make it so that we use it as least often as we can.
