Unit Nine

Weekend Resource

As you work on Unit 9, please know I am here to help and support you. Please email (lteitler@kaplan.edu) or call (754.223.9621).

Enjoy the virtual cookies! If we learned in a face to face class, I would definitely make a party and bake you cookies :)

Below are some resources to guide you through the weekend. Of course, let me know your questions.

Late Policy Reminder

We are currently in Unit 9. This means, if you are behind, you may still submit the Unit 7 late work by the end of Unit 9. If you are behind in Units 8 and 9, that late work must be submitted by the Sunday in Unit 10.

How to Summarize the Article

How to Create an Effective Summary Paragraph

  • Begin with a clear identification of the type of work, title, author, and main point in the present tense. For example: In the feature article "Four Kinds of Reading," the author, Donald Hall, explains his opinion about different types of reading.

  • Address the most important information the AUDIENCE needs to understand the original document without having to read it. Check with your outline and your original to make sure you have covered the important points.

  • Use ‚Äúsummarizing language." Periodically remind your reader that this is a summary by using phrases such as the article claims, the author suggests, etc.
