All State Choir Information

What is the process?

Students will learn their voice part of 3 - 4 choir pieces per audition. There are four in person auditions in this process.

District: All academically eligible students enrolled in choir are eligible for this audition. They must pass the TMHS benchmarks to audition.

Region: 72 Treble per section and 50 Tenor Bass per section will advance to the second round of auditions. This round will determine the region Treble and Mixed choir participants. Any student selected to the Region Choir must participate in Region Weekend. This includes rehearsals and the final concert on November 8th, November 12th, and November 13th.

Pre-Area: The top 20 singers from each section represent our Region at the Pre-Area auditions. This audition includes a sightreading component.

Area: The top 5 singers from each section represent our Region at the Area auditions. This audition includes a sightreading component, and determines their participation in the All State Choir at the Texas Music Educators' Convention in San Antonio.

Stay tuned for a more detailed newsletter regarding the TMEA all state choir. The rehearsal schedule above will assist students who wish to receive more coaching on the audition selections.

Sightreading Factory

This school year, we will continue using Sightreading Factory for assessments. We are still working on setting everything up, and hope to have it up and running by next week!

Letter Jacket Points

As a TMHS Choir member, students are eligible to receive a letter jacket based off of a point system. Students can earn points throughout the year for different performances, competitions, and service projects at another school in TISD. To earn a letter jacket, students must earn a total of 24 points. Points do roll over each year, so if they do not earn enough in one year, they can continue working towards their letter jacket as a TMHS Choir member.

Voice Lessons

We STRONGLY encourage everyone to enroll in our private voice studios! Lessons are during your student's choir class period, and are $24 per lesson. This is a wonderful opportunity for all choir members to receive one-on-one instruction that is catered directly to them.

Choir Spring Trips!

There will be two different spring trips offered this Spring for the TMHS Choir Program. We will travel to New York City on March 23-27, and to South Padre April 22-24. Both trips require payments throughout the year in order to fully fund your student's trip. Altogether, the New York trip will total around $2000, and the South Padre Trip will total around $700. Students may elect to go on both trips, only one trip, or neither trip, but we would encourage going on at least one! Fundraisers throughout the year (World's Finest Chocolate, Flags) can be directly used to help pay for your trip as well.

The first installment for payments will be due on August 31st:

New York City: $300

South Padre: $100

TMHS Choir Flag Scholarship Program

Choir has an amazing fundraising opportunity & we are welcoming you to participate in our flag fundraiser! This fundraiser allows the choir student to earn scholarship money toward paying for choir trips, banquet, and other choir activities. The student will earn $2 in scholarship funds per flag that they place and pick up at homes in surrounding neighborhoods per holiday to use towards choir expenses. If you place 50 flags, you can earn $100 in scholarship money towards choir expenses! This can potentially amount to enough scholarship money to cover the trips, banquet & other choir activities.

This fundraiser consists of picking up flags at a storage unit and placing them in sleeves in front of homes that have signed up to participate. It usually takes approximately one hour to put out 50 flags. Approximately one week later, you will pick up and roll the flags neatly and return to the same storage unit at the designated times. We do this five times a year on certain national holidays. We hope you participate! It is a great way to make all the fun things choir offers affordable.

***For more info, check out the flag fundraiser website at www.schoolspiritflags.com or email us at tmhsflags@gmail.com. Also, make sure you are signed up on Charms to receive emails that will be sent with sign up details before each holiday.
