Number Talks
I am so excited you had an opportunity to speak with Elisa Gibbs, our NHA math contact, this past week about Number Talks! She has provided you with the outline for the next 6 weeks. I have provided the resources I have so far. I am working on getting the actual dot image cards that go along with the lessons in the Number Talks book. I will be looking to see you engaging your students every day for no more than 10 minutes in this mental math activity. I own the Number Talks book Elisa was using. In the book, there is a DVD with examples of teachers conducting number talks. Please let me know if you are interested in watching these videos.
Official Count Day
Tuesday was our official count day. Thanks for making it a great event! We came very close to meeting 100% attendance, but fell short by 11 students. The students who did come to school seemed to have a great time. Thanks again for all of your effort!
Parent Conferences
Thanks for reaching out to parents to schedule conferences. There were a lot of parents in the building on Friday. Please be continue to hold conferences this week to get 100% participation. Parents must sign for their scholar's report card in order to receive it for the first and third marking periods. Report cards are not to be sent home with the scholars unless you have a signed portfolio jacket from the parent.
Remember to turn in your sign in sheets to me and to upload your conference notes to TKES by Friday, October 16th.
Math Anchor Chart Sample
This chart is very explicit in showing this math concept.
Story Problem and Solution Anchor Chart
I love how the teacher emphasizes at the bottom that the problem and solution must fit together.
Graphic Organizer for Writing
Here is an example of an informational writing planning graphic for kindergarten and first grade.
Field Trips
The expectation is to have at least 1 field trip per semester. Just a reminder to submit your completed field trip request, including the quote for transportation. These packets are due 2 months in advance, which means in order for your grade level to go on a field trip, you must have the completed packet to me this week. If you have any questions, please ask.
