Parental Involvement
You are encouraged to be involved in your child's education and as a part of the Osprey Woods Public School community. Here are a few suggestions:
- ask your child questions about what they learned at school
- review and sign the agenda daily
- review the Friday Folder for important school information
- participate in school-based events like open houses or assemblies
- join School Council
- volunteer at our school by contacting our Volunteer Coordinator, Mrs. Ghai-Chauhan
Should you have any questions or concerns about how your child is adjusting, please contact their teacher directly by phone or write a note in the agenda.
Supporting Learners
After completing an initial assessment to determine a student's current literacy and numeracy skills, teachers will adjust the classroom program to meet your child's needs. Your child may receive tutorial or integrated support within the classroom setting. As your child progresses, the way support is delivered may change.
New immigrants and Canadian-born students whose first language is other than English are considered emergent bilinguals, receiving support as an English Language Learner. Students are encouraged to develop their English language by using literacy skills from their first language. This allows students to develop their academic language alongside their everyday language skills. When people use their first language to explore thinking, they create rich conversations to connect their new learning.
For further information about how your child is supported and what they learn, please see the resources listed below.
