Hey Parents, if you are interested having your child in the PHES Band this year, please complete the google form: https://forms.gle/EaexMe3avgKjW4YN6
We do still have openings for clarinet, flute, and a few saxophone spots.
Band is Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-4:15 PM in the Elementary music room with Mrs. Madore and Mr. Otterstrom.
I’ll send more specific procedural clarifications out to parents who have children signed up for band.
Students doing band during each term are expected to pay a $75. This fee will show up in Skyward shortly after you’ve signed your student up.
Students will need an instrument, and how and where you choose to get that instrument is up to you (although if it is used, we suggest it gets taken into a shop to check for needed repairs and that it is in good working order).
The fee schedule listed that number as $150 as an estimate in the investment, but that number varies on things like: which instrument, condition, level, brand, renting vs buying, and where you get the instrument.
The book we will be using is $9.99 plus tax. It’s called Accent on Achievement, book 1, for the instrument your child is playing. That is also up to you on how and where you get that from. There are used books that could be acceptable. It is the same book we used last year.
We will provide access to any other music played this term.
If you need further assistance in knowing about instrument accessories or have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you,
Mrs. Janet Madore

What's for Lunch?
Hey Parents!!!
1st Grade - This past week we finished up our classroom puzzle. We reviewed what it means to be unique and how we all have wonderful things to add to our classroom. Just like each puzzle piece was unique, our students are all unique too.
If you removed a puzzle piece, the puzzle wasn't complete just like our class needs each student in order to make it vibrant and beautiful.
2nd Grade - Students learned about I-Statements and why they are important and helpful in conflict resolution. We modeled the difference between I and You- Statements began practicing to form our own I-Statements as a class.
3rd Grade - We finished writing our Respect Recipes in partners. We then practiced perspective talking by sharing our recipes with other partnerships in the class. We discussed what similarities and differences they noticed as they compared recipes.
4th Grade - Our 4th graders finished writing and performing their skits about conflict resolution in each of their classes. Within each skit, they needed to demonstrate a conflict and then work through the Tree of Choices to resolve the conflict.
5th Grade - Our amazing 5th graders learned that it takes 3 positive comments to outweigh one negative comment. Students learned that our words have power and they volunteered negative comments that a 5th grader may hear. They then proceeded to write meaningful positive comments to cover up those negative ones.
On Thursday September 22nd, Mr. Fry and I spoke to all the 5th grade classes about what is appropriate at school and what is not. We have had an uptick of inappropriate gestures, comments and actions the past week or so. While we know kids will be kids, we'd like to get ahead of this and ensure it doesn't get out of hand. We are committed to PHES being a safe and comfortable learning environment for all students.
Our 5th graders understand we are taking violations of the school policy* seriously and violations may lead to disciplinary action. We appreciate all you do to support us here at Providence Hall. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
