June 2022 Newsletter
Welcome Back
Hello everyone!
Now that Memorial Day is in the past, all programs have started up and we can say the summer trimester is in full gear. Welcome to those just joining us or who have already been on campus for multiple trimesters.
We're focused on getting everyone started on the right foot. Read about:
- Our Webinars: Get an orientation, learn about citation management software, and discuss advanced searching during one of the webinars we offer via TEAMS. Recordings are also available.
- Library Tools: Grammarly, Mendeley & Zotero, and interlibrary loan exist to make writing a paper easier than you thought possible.
- The Writing Lab: Are you writing a paper or writing a personal statement? The writing lab can help you out.
In this newsletter, you'll also find news about holidays we're closed or might have reduced hours. You'll always want to pay attention to our website for any changes.
Library Summer Closures
The library will be closed the following days this summer.
Hours:
Monday, June 20th for the Juneteenth Holiday.
Monday, July 4th for the 4th of July Holiday.
At this time, we plan to be open the Saturday and Sunday (6/18, 6/19, 7/2 and 7/2) before each holiday but watch our webpage for any updates to those hours.
Online Library Workshops
Orientation to the Library
Come learn about the library. What do you need to do to use the physical library? What resources are available online?
All of your questions can be answered during this session. If you can't make it, you can always email library@nwhealth.edu to set up an alternative time. Or read through the tutorials and documents below.

Mendeley & Zotero
The university recommends using a citation management software for your papers. We've often recommended Mendeley. However, if you primarily work on an Apple computer, Zotero might work better.

Library Tools
But if you can't make the webinars, we do offer quick guides to some of our tools.
Grammarly
Grammarly is more than your average spelling and grammar checker. Grammarly goes further to offer suggestions on how to make your writing clearer. As long as you're a student, you have access to our Premium account. To learn about Grammarly, visit our guide: https://nwhealth.libguides.com/writing/grammarly
Mendeley & Zotero
If you're doing one or two citations, those can usually be done by hand. If you're writing a paper, you may want to organize a larger amount of citations and have citations generated for you. Mendeley and Zotero do just that. We normally recommend Mendeley but if you're an Apple user, Zotero might work better.
Learn about both here: https://nwhealth.libguides.com/writing/citations#s-lg-box-28398022
Interlibrary Loan
This isn't a "tool" per se, but take advantage of this while you can. If we don't have a book or an article, we can ask another library to lend it to us. This is freely available to you as students and faculty. Get the right article for your class needs instead of just the one that is available.

The Writing Lab
We also offer services in The Writing Lab where we can talk you through the steps of writing a paper and offer feedback on what you've already written.
You can set up an appointment or if you'd like feedback on what you've already written, you can email it to us. You will get our feedback or information on how to set up an appointment within 1 to 2 days. Same-day feedback will depend on schedules so we recommend you plan ahead.
Another thing The Writing Lab offers is assistance with admissions essays to graduate programs.
You can find more information on the writing lab and writing in general in our Writing & Citing Guide.
