From the Principal: STAAR Testing Next Two Weeks
Measuring & communicating learning is an important aspect of education and life. STAAR is just one snapshot of the learning of a child for that day. Unfortunately the high-stakes accountability testing environment in our world today leads us to believe it is the most important measure of learning and has led to other negative ripple effects.
We simply tell our students to do their best. Doing their best includes taking time to read each question and using strategies learned in class. Don't rush.
During testing days students are in testing through lunch, sometimes into 5th period (1:22 - 2:12 pm). For students who are testing please do not check those students out until testing is complete (after 4th period) as each student who leaves a testing room impacts others who are taking a test.
There are testing make-up days so if your child is sick it is recommended for your child to get rest, get well, and take their STAAR assessment on a make-up day.
Students may bring a snack for testing days. The snack must be eaten outside the testing room. The snacks should not be messy and should be a single-serving size (not a family size of Takis -- we've seen it). Students will have about 5 - 8 minutes to eat their snack and relax before returning to their assessment.
Contact AMS testing coordinator, Jennifer Turner, at JTurner@humbleisd.net with any questions.

Paying Fines & Fees!
ID fines: Students must have a visible permanent ID each day. Students who do not wear their permanent ID must wear a temporary ID sticker, which costs $1 per day. ID fees can be paid on RevTrak at AMS - Temporary ID Badge Fine. Students can bring $4 to their grade-level office between 8:00 - 8:25 am to purchase a new ID/lanyard. They will receive their new ID/lanyard by lunch. Contact your grade-level office with questions: 6th grade: 281-641-4712; 7th grade: 281-641-4610; 8th grade: 281-641-4620 Class Fees: Foods for Today, Art, Introduction to Engineering, and other elective classes require materials for students to bake, build, or design to consume or take home. These materials have a cost. Class fees fund these project materials. Class fees can be paid on RevTrak at AMS - Class Fees. Contact the course teacher for questions. Library Lost Books & Fines: Access to books is important for students to grow as readers. Unreturned or lost books prevent other students from reading these books. Late books fines or lost books can be paid for in RevTrak. Contact Brooke King, AMS Librarian, with questions, 281-641-4606.
