ID Badges
ALL students must be wearing their ID and it should be visible at all times. Whether it be their school ID on a lanyard OR a temporary ID (sticker) badge, it MUST be worn.
If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.
NEW
Students will be charged for an extensive number of temporary badges! Please be sure to use and wear your issued ID Badge.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are SHUT DOWN and PUT AWAY from 7:30a - 2:20p
- Student are expected to follow EPS expectations for cell phone use.
- There is a progressive plan if students are using their cell phone during the school day.
- If cell phone usage becomes habitual, it can lead to a parent picking up their cell phone in the Front Office.
Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
This week in Science, students explored Tornadoes! They looked at tornado data across the USA and learned how tornadoes form and why tornado alley is the ideal spot for their formation!
Students will have a quiz on Hurricanes and Tornadoes next Thursday, December 15.
Our final exam is scheduled for Monday, December 19. This final will be covering everything students have learned this semester. We will get a study guide out to students next week - they may not use it on the test, it is only to help them prepare. There are no redos on Final Exams. If your student is absent and misses the Final Exam, they will take it after winter break. Science Final Exams will not be given early.
English
Hello Thunderhawks!
This week we are showing off our grammar and mechanics skills through an essay. We are using a platform called Writable to write an informative descriptive essay over the article, “Animal Snoops”. Students will follow the prompt to put all of the skills we have learned throughout the semester to work! Following the conclusion of our essay assignments, we will begin reading our final text of the fall semester, Radium Girls.
As we are nearing the end of the semester, please remind your student to charge their chromebook each night. Our English final is scheduled for Tuesday, December 20th. This exam will consist of the material we have covered in the most recent nine weeks of school. If your student will not be in attendance for the final, please send your teacher an email ASAP.

Literacy
Happy December! We have reached the midway point of our class novel, The War That Saved My Life. We are working through comprehension questions, opinion questions with supporting evidence for our opinions, and vocabulary building. Students are enjoying the novel and we love sharing it with them.
Our semester final is on Monday, December 19th and it will be over the entire novel. Please make every effort to have your student(s) at school on that day as taking a final after Winter Break over a 300+ page novel is difficult for even the best reader!
Finally, please restock your student(s) pencils. We have multiple students asking each hour to borrow and they tell us they forget to restock at home.

Happy Sunday Thunderhawk Families!
This past week went by so fast and I can only imagine how fast the next 8 school days are going to fly by. In fact, I am really in awe that we are already a full semester into this school year. It has been amazing to see how these students have grown and adapted to all the “newness” of middle school in such a short time.
They are about to experience their first “Finals Week” of middle school! We have divided finals up into two days, Monday and Tuesday. Please be sure to reach out to teachers if you are going to miss finals.
All missing work will be due by December 16th. That is this Friday! If a student is unhappy with their current grade in a class, now is the time to talk to the teacher, not Friday! I would encourage students to first check Infinite Campus and Canvas to see if there are any missing assignments that they need to turn in.
If a student has been absent or will be absent this week, remember that all work is available to them on Canvas. You do not need to wait until you get back from being absent to get make up work. :)
Be sure to dress up for this weeks dress up days for “Deck the Heartland Hall!” I love seeing everyone showing their Heartland and Holiday Spirit!
Monday: Green or Holiday Character
Tuesday: Tourists/Hawaiian Shirts
Wednesday: Animal Prints
Thursday: Presents and Bows
Friday: Winter Wear

We had a couple days of beautiful weather and I enjoyed challenging some 6th graders to a wall sit contest in the courtyard! Who is up for the challenge this week!? :)

Counselor's Corner
It’s that time of the year when we are looking forward to our Christmas break, but first we have school and final exams. On top of the normal routines of practices and games, rehearsals and performances, there are often extra chores and shopping to do as well. Here are some ideas to help you de-stress and feel better towards the end of the semester:
Break your study time into small sessions with 5 - 10 minute breaks in between each. You will remember more and you will not be as tired as you would if you study for hours at a time.
Exercise is always helpful. Take your dog for a walk, lift some weights, do some sit-ups, squats, push ups….anything to get your heart beating and to give yourself a mental break.
I have always liked the breathing technique to help me decompress. Slowly breathe in through your nose counting up to 5 and then slowly breathe out through your mouth. Close your eyes and pay attention to your breathing. This is also a good time to have positive thoughts to help motivate you through the end of the semester. “I can do this!”
I hope this helps you and I wish for everyone to have a wonderful Christmas holiday!
