Citizen Bee High School Regional Competition
Where: Region 17 Education Service Center
Who: 9-12 grade students with sponsor
Why: It's all about that Civic Education!!! And, the contest provides a chance for students to show their knowledge of U.S. History and government, prizes, t-shirts, and a chance to compete at the State Citizen Bee competition in Austin.
Complete the following google form if you have a group of kids interested. The registration deadline is February 21, 2020.

Changes to 8th Grade STAAR and U.S. History EOC for Spring 2020
Enhancements being introduced to 2019-2020 social studies assessments include the following:
-Lead-in statements that provide students with introductory context and helpful information
-Use of all uppercase letters to highlight emphasis words such as MOST or BEST
-Greater focus on student understanding and critical thinking skills rather than rote memorization
House Bill 1244: Field Testing in 2019-2020
-United States Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) civics test questions will be field-tested on the May 2020 U.S. History STAAR test.
-USCIS civics test questions will be in multiple-choice format.
-USCIS civics questions on the May 2020 U.S. History STAAR test will not be counted in the calculation of student scores or campus and district accountability ratings.
