What have we been busy doing so far this term?

Topic: We have landed with gusto into our new topic Children in the 1940s. This is not a study of war, rather a study of how children were affected during war times. We will look specifically at evacuees, rationing and shelters. The children are really enjoying the unit so far. Many of them have asked to bring artefacts and photos and tell stories about their family's history. We welcome this, please just let us know what is coming in to school.

Literacy: Our lessons link closely with the topic at the moment. We have written about children being evacuated from cities and now we are learning about the features of writing a letter. Next week we move on to the features of newspaper articles and the children will become war-time journalists.

Maths: Last week we finished our topic on time. All the children were working on the writing time from analogue clocks and in digital form too. Some children worked on 24 hour time while others worked on calculating times from timetables. It's always good to keep practising these skills at home.

Next Week

On Monday the school is closed due to the Dutch public holiday Koningsdag (King's Day).

On Thursday the children's Science project is due. They should have been planning their invention over the past week and a half. They will need to talk about their invention to the class, explaining how it could work.

On the morning of Friday 1 May, parents are welcome to join our Assembly in the Hall to bid farewell to Mrs Mac. Assembly will start at 08:50 and should take 15-20 minutes.

On Friday afternoon we will go to the Haagse Bos (forest) to build war time shelters. The children should bring some old clothes and shoes (or wellington boots) to wear to the forest. We will leave at 12:30 and be back at school by 15:00. Please make sure you have given permission for your child to attend via the Gateway.
