News From the Office

COVID Communication

Once Mr.Renner receives your child's name from the health department as a positive case, he will send (families identified as close contact) an email with a possible exposure date and a possible return date once the close contract tracing has been completed. After that, the Livingston County Health Department will contact you with options for quarantining.


*Please note: families will not be notified of which students have selected quarantine options in your child's class.


Please make sure your phone number listed on your child's emergency card is a cell phone number (if applicable). If your cell phone number is listed, you will receive a text message and an email from the health department if your child has been identified as a close contact. If you have a landline, you will only receive an email. Make sure your email is up-to-date as well.


To update your information, please log into Parent Connect and make the necessary changes.

Picture Retake Day

If your child did not get their picture taken today, they will have the opportunity to do so on picture retake day which is scheduled for October 22nd. Those that did have their picture taken today, pictures should be available in about a week to view and order.

Conferences are Coming

Parent Teacher Conferences will begin in a few weeks. Your child's teacher will be in contact soon to schedule a date and time with you. There will also be a virtual option if that works better for you. Stay tuned...

Meet One of Our New Staff Members...


Ms. Brianna Wiater graduated from the University of Michigan majoring in psychology with an emphasis on childhood development and adolescence. She later added on her teaching certificate when she realized her true passion was within the walls of a classroom! This is her third year of teaching, but her first at Spencer, and she couldn’t be more excited to join the Brighton family. In her spare time she loves to read, write stories and songs, and spend time by the water with her family, friends, and Yorkie-Poo, Bella. Fun facts: her favorite color is pink, she is a cookie connoisseur, she collects books and candles, and she’s getting married in December!

Remember Your Family Pass

Please remember to bring your Family Pass with you when you sign out your student from the office. If you forget your pass, you will need to bring in a photo ID. Lee Ann and I know some of the familiar faces, but it helps us if you have your pass with you. Thank you for your cooperation.

MASKS NEEDED ON THE BUS!

Please remember to send a mask in with your child if they ride the bus only in the afternoon. We are seeing an increase in kids coming in to the office at the end of the day to get a mask because one was forgotten , which further delays the buses.

Please Pack a Change of Clothes

Parents - Please make sure you pack a change of clothes in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL grades, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or loose a tooth, or spill food on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have an accident. If they have a change of clothes, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we need to call home for you to bring up a change of clothing. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Spencer Elementary Student Directory 21-22

Hi Roadrunner Families!

I have received several requests for the student directory, and many are from Kindergarten families. The last directory is from May, so I am working on a new directory for the 21-22 school year. If you would like your family to be a part of the directory, please click on the link below. You need to fill out this Google Form for every child who attends Spencer Elementary. The deadline to participate will be Sunday 10/3/21. I will then send the directory automatically to any family who participates based on the email address that you use to fill out the form. This directory will be distributed the week of 10/4/21. Click on the link and fill it out to participate. For anyone who misses this round, we will do a second round to this directory in January. Lunch Information

Lunch

NOTE: If your child is a COLD LUNCH, the cost of a milk is $.50. It is NOT FREE. If your child gets a HOT LUNCH, the milk is included in the free Federal grant lunch.


We will offer hot lunch each day the students are present. You are also able to bring your own lunch too!

This year the Federal grant has been extended and all students will receive lunch at no cost. If your child would like to purchase milk only, there will be a charge for that item.


This year, Spencer students will eat lunch first and then head out to recess to ensure proper hygiene before eating. When the students arrive in the lunchroom, they will sit in assigned seats with their classrooms. This will allow for appropriate contract tracing if needed. Lunch will be 25 minutes and recess 20 minutes.


PLEASE NOTE the adjustments that will take place:


  • We would encourage you to bring a water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day.
  • Microwaves are not available for use.
  • The salad bar has been removed.
  • We will no longer have a choice for lunch; it will be one entree only—no extra snacks for sale either.
  • Condiments such as ranch, ketchup, and mustard will no longer be available.


In the past, we had a "late table" for those that needed a little more time to eat. This will not be an option due to the adjustments we've made to our plan for social distancing and contract tracing.

Note From the Counselor

Counselor Corner!


Hello from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! I have very much enjoyed our start to a great school year. I spent the month of September visiting classrooms for a social-emotional lesson centered around forming connections with peers and strengthening friendships. I have also increased visits with individual students needing social-emotional support. I am working hard to add some peer support groups by the end of the month! As the year progresses, I am continuing to connect with classroom teachers for referrals for students who are struggling or may need additional support. If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.


We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact your counselor with any questions or concerns that you may have, and Mrs. Fox or Mrs. McKiddy will do their best to support your child.

Roadrunner Run packets have gone home! Roadrunner Run is the first of two large fundraisers we do every year. We will have a fun run outside on Friday, October 15th with a DJ, snacks, and fun! We cannot do this event without you! Volunteer opportunities are plentiful - please take a look at the signup genius below to see where you can help out.

This year's theme is Roadrunner Adventurers. We will be handing out Adventurer "Badges" (button pins) at every PTO event, beginning with the Roadrunner Run. Try to collect them all!


We will be running our first Box Tops Challenge October 11-22. We will not be sending out paper copies this year, so watch for a digital flyer here and on our Facebook page. If you have not yet signed up for a Box Tops account, please do! If you use this link, and scan within the first 14 days of signing up, we both receive 20 bonus points for our school - win-win!


Our first book of the month has been ordered - we are still waiting for all to arrive. Your students will be bringing them home as soon as we receive them!


We were notified by the district that there is a toner shortage, so we will be limiting paper copies of flyers coming home for the remainder of the year. Please check out our Facebook page and/or website for the most up to date information this year.
