September/October News

Thank You Parents

Thank you parents for your continued support and encouragement from home. We are working very hard on listening skills in the classroom. Many times when someone is talking, it is difficult to hear what the person talking is saying when little ones are talking at their tables. Please continue to reinforce with your child the importance of listening and paying attention skills.

Reading and Learning

Parents are asked to continue practicing letter naming and letter sounds at home with your child. Please feel free to use any pages inside the STAR book to help with identifying the letters and a picture to go with each letter and the sound. For example - Aa - apple /a/ . Please also practice random letter recognition and random letter sounds to make sure your child knows them out of order as well. Please allow your child to use the reading apps,, and at home. When using the kids a-z your child first listens to the story and then must read it on their own. Continue to practice sight word recognition at home.

Students should be practicing the numbers 0 - 5. They should be able to write the number, recognize it, and draw pictures to show quantities for the number. Please also practice counting in sequential order as high as possible independently. Please practice shapes recognition for common shapes.

Student Recognition and Congratulations

Good citizens at MBES are based on students representing a particular character trait each month. Students will get a certificate to receive ice cream or a snack item from the cafeteria. They will also get a certificate, pencil, and their name will appear in the Salisbury Post newspaper September's character trait is Teamwork. The students chosen for showing this character trait for September are Sophie Sides and Zander Murff.

Happy Birthday Day to Cami Mitchell on Thursday, October 1st.

Students of the Week

Thanks for the snacks goes to Ethan Freeman who was Student of the Week September 7 - 11 and Zein Murray who was Student of the Week September 21 - 25. Each student went above and beyond, giving us enough snacks to last two weeks. Our next student of the week will be announced this week (Sept. 28 - Oct. 2) to bring snacks for their classmates during October 5 - 9.

Upcoming Report Card Conferences

Parents are required to attend a first nine week report card conference. I will be holding conferences in the morning from 7:30 - 8:00 and in the afternoons 3:45 - 4:15 and 4:15 - 4:45 starting at the end of October. These are the only times available because of classroom instruction and bus/car teacher duty in the afternoons. I will be sending out a sign-up very soon. Continue to check your email daily to look for this sign-up. I sent out an email to all parents last week of what the report card looks like. Please make sure you check your emails daily.

Lunch Time Reminder

Please remember to make a change to your child's STAR book that our lunch time is now 12:35 pm instead of 11:50 am.
