Divinity Family News
September 2015
Welcome! Welcome back!
I am so happy to see so many families back on campus. In addition to advertising the events listed below, I also want to alert you to some community resources that might be helpful.
- Looking for a child care facility? Check out these resources at Yale's work-life program. You will find an online listing of facilities, a link to a site that reviews local facilities and pre-schools, as well as information about Au Pair/Nanny services and summer day camps.
- Need a part-time or occasional babysitter? Check out the Yale Babysitting service for students (undergrad and grads) that are interested in some part-time or occasional babysitting opportunities.
- Two facebook sites in particular are recommended for ongoing information--our own Yale Divinity School Families site and also the Yale Grad Bulldogs with Pups site. The McDougal Center, which supports grad and prof students with programming and other opportunities hires two family programming fellows that will plan monthly activities for families. Like that facebook page so you don't miss a thing!
- Need help finding the right resources to balance your school and home life? Stop by or make an appointment with Susan Olson. I'm happy to help, and have a good knowledge of local resources that might help fit your needs. Stop by in Seabury, or for a specific appointment, sign up for a time on divlink (the career site).
I'm looking forward, with joy, to the year ahead!

Divinity Families Parents (children welcome) meeting
Please join us for an opening meeting on Tuesday, September 8 at 12:30 in room S100. Pizza lunch provided. This is an opportunity to meet each other and brainstorm the types of things that would be helpful/interesting for this coming year. Speakers? social events? Parents group? Bring your ideas, bring your children (if they're with you), bring your co-parent if he or she is available, bring yourself! Please RSVP to susan.olson@yale.edu with the number of big and little people that you are bringing so that we can plan food.
Playground Playdate
Join us for a relaxed playdate at Lighthouse Park on Wednesday September 23 from 1-3. The park has a great playground, loads of sand to play in, and other places to explore. Hopefully, it will also provide a chance for parents to chat together. Lighthouse Park is free after labor day. Parents of school age kids, note that NHPS is closed on this day due to Yom Kippur. Children must come accompanied by a parent or guardian, (and it's fine if that parent is the one not enrolled in classes!) Likewise, come late, leave early as you must!) Lighthouse point is located at 2 Lighthouse Road in New Haven, and can also be reached by the G (city) bus line. Interested in car-pooling (either offering a ride or needing one)? email susan.olson@yale.edu. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.
Save the Date! Zoo Trip Planned during Convocation week!
More details will be forthcoming, but we are working on confirming a zoo outing for either Monday or Tuesday of convocation week.

Story Time and More at the New Haven Free Public Library
Students with local addresses are welcome to become members of the New Haven Free Public Library, located right on the green in downtown New Haven (with other branches throughout New Haven.) The cheerful children's room offers regular events, a collection of books to check out, and even the option to check out discounted or free tickets to local attractions (zoo, aquarium, museums, etc.) Of particular interest are Music and Me class demos (for toddlers/pre-schoolers) on September 9, Wednesday baby lap-sit hours and Thursday stay and play story hours. Check everything out online.
