The Connection Week 3 Term 2
Huapai District School 20th May 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
This week at assembly, I showed the school an image of two people standing side by side. Both in a blue suit, both with ties on. One had their tie undone, their hair unbrushed and looking dishevelled and the other with their tie on properly, their hair brushed and looking sharp. I asked the school which person is better at their job. Without hesitation, they all pointed at the same person. It is a sad fact that research has shown that we have only 7 seconds to make a good first impression. Although it has no bearing on our ability, we are judged almost instantly. Our Huapai uniform is one we want our students to wear with pride; to be proud that they are a member of the best school in New Zealand, to be considered the best person they can be.
We are consistently working hard to maintain high standards for not only ourselves, but also our buildings and grounds. We want our students and teachers to have the very best of resources to help their learning and teaching, to continue to have clean and well kept grounds and to feel collective responsibility as a team. Our current project is to give our beloved school library the makeover it deserves. We want a library that when people walk into it, they are impressed within the first 7 seconds and can feel the love of learning that we are so passionate about here.
When we all work together, each doing a little bit, we can achieve great things. The one student who wears their correct uniform with pride, the one piece of rubbish picked up and popped into the bin, the one donation to our library refurbishment. It all helps continue to display the very best first impression of Huapai District School as a school that cares about its people and its grounds - well within 7 seconds!
We thank YOU so much for your continued support, it really does mean a lot.
Kind regards,
Maree Lloyd

THANK YOU
A huge thank you to Burnetts for registering our school with the Fuel for School program.
For each 2 litres of bulk fuel that Burnett’s purchase, 1 cent is donated to our school. This week we have been able to purchase two programmable robots which will be used in STEM learning here at school. If you would like to register your company for this program, please contact Kelsey Teare on kelsey.teare@southfuels.co.nz or you can use the link below.
Pink Shirt Day Mufti - TOMORROW
Tomorrow our school will be holding a mufti day in support of Pink Shirt Day. A day created by the Mental Health Foundation to spread aroha and kindness, celebrate diversity and put an end to bullying.
Our students are invited to wear a pink shirt to mufti day and bring a gold coin to donate to this worthy cause. We hope to see our school transformed into a sea of pink for Pink Shirt Day!
