The Connection Week 3 Term 2

Huapai District School 20th May 2021

This week at assembly, I showed the school an image of two people standing side by side. Both in a blue suit, both with ties on. One had their tie undone, their hair unbrushed and looking dishevelled and the other with their tie on properly, their hair brushed and looking sharp. I asked the school which person is better at their job. Without hesitation, they all pointed at the same person. It is a sad fact that research has shown that we have only 7 seconds to make a good first impression. Although it has no bearing on our ability, we are judged almost instantly. Our Huapai uniform is one we want our students to wear with pride; to be proud that they are a member of the best school in New Zealand, to be considered the best person they can be.

We are consistently working hard to maintain high standards for not only ourselves, but also our buildings and grounds. We want our students and teachers to have the very best of resources to help their learning and teaching, to continue to have clean and well kept grounds and to feel collective responsibility as a team. Our current project is to give our beloved school library the makeover it deserves. We want a library that when people walk into it, they are impressed within the first 7 seconds and can feel the love of learning that we are so passionate about here.

When we all work together, each doing a little bit, we can achieve great things. The one student who wears their correct uniform with pride, the one piece of rubbish picked up and popped into the bin, the one donation to our library refurbishment. It all helps continue to display the very best first impression of Huapai District School as a school that cares about its people and its grounds - well within 7 seconds!

We thank YOU so much for your continued support, it really does mean a lot.

Kind regards,

Maree Lloyd

Fund A Future

Make every school donation go a little further.

Did you know that you can re-donate your donation tax rebates directly to our school? Our partner, Fund a Future, helps you to do exactly that.

Fund a Future is a Kiwi social enterprise helping to make claiming donation tax rebates easy and offering customers the option to re-gift their rebates to schools just like ours.

What do you need to do? Sign up at the link below, it only takes two minutes. Once signed up, you just need to select the re-gift to your school option. Fund a Future does the rest.

A huge thank you to Burnetts for registering our school with the Fuel for School program.

For each 2 litres of bulk fuel that Burnett’s purchase, 1 cent is donated to our school. This week we have been able to purchase two programmable robots which will be used in STEM learning here at school. If you would like to register your company for this program, please contact Kelsey Teare on or you can use the link below.

Pink Shirt Day Mufti - TOMORROW

Tomorrow our school will be holding a mufti day in support of Pink Shirt Day. A day created by the Mental Health Foundation to spread aroha and kindness, celebrate diversity and put an end to bullying.

Our students are invited to wear a pink shirt to mufti day and bring a gold coin to donate to this worthy cause. We hope to see our school transformed into a sea of pink for Pink Shirt Day!

Police helicopter

On Monday, all things going to plan, we are set to have a visit from the police helicopter. Please do not panic if you see the police helicopter heading our way. It is a chance for the students to get up close and hear about the role of the police helicopter in our area.

HFN Quiz Night

On Friday 18th June we are holding a community quiz night! Details will be out next week. It’s time to start rallying the troops to see who’s keen.

We are working on an Auction & Raffle to run at the quiz night (more details on this to follow). We have some epic prizes already lined up, but need more!

If there is anyone out there who has anything they would like to donate or knows of anyone that would like to donate, then please get in touch with us as soon as possible. Contact details are on the flyer below.

This Friday we welcome 28 new students and their families to our school. Each powhiri is special and a great opportunity for us to show what a welcoming school we are. We encourage you to have your child tell you about what happens on this special occasion.
