Our Path Note Topic
On November 21st, the District began our new 3 year Comprehensive Plan for PDE. We had administrators, teachers, community members, and a student representative in attendance. This session was focused on reviewing and revising the Mission, Vision, and Values in our current Comprehensive Plan. We broke into 4 small groups to discuss and make suggestions for improving content and clarity of our current statements. We also discussed First Choice and how the mission, vision, and values reflect our current path. It was a productive session with great discussion! Our next session will be held on December 19th in the WASHS Library. At this meeting, we will begin digging into our academic strengths and challenges across our six schools and discussing potential trends and action steps. We encourage anyone interested in this work to reach out to your building principal for more information about how you can participate! We would love to have even more voices as we work to write a cohesive comprehensive plan aligned with our Path to First Choice.

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is Joella Strait. In addition to her duties as a special education teacher and content leader, Joella has inherited the role of “paraeducator supervisor”. She takes her responsibilities seriously and is a dedicated advocate for students and their families as well as the staff whom she supports and represents. Joella is very organized and a good communicator who actively listens to the ideas, insights and concerns of her co-workers. She is a true team player who helps make the “dream work”!
Join us in congratulating Joella Strait as this week's Piece of the Puzzle!
New Policies
Suggested revisions and new policies come from the PA School Board Association, board members, staff, administration, and others. The proposed policy goes to the Policy Committee for review. The Policy Committee will either approve the proposed policy to go to full board for review and adoption, or will deny or wait for a different time to revisit it.
Even though it will not be weekly, stay tuned for any new and/or recently adopted policies in this section.

Food Policy Update: White House National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health
Of particular note: Modernize federal programs so enrolled individuals can more easily utilize benefits. Many federal programs were established decades ago. To bring federal nutrition assistance programs into the 21st century:
- USDA, through support from ARP funds, will expand online shopping in WIC.
- Online shopping is currently only being piloted in a small number of WIC state agencies.
- USDA will also propose to update regulations to make the SNAP online shopping program permanent and continue to add more online retailers and states to the existing program.
- Online shopping can expand access to healthy food and break down barriers for marginalized communities and older adults who may face discrimination or stigma, increased health risks, or have limited mobility or transportation.
- Additionally, SNAP participants are not currently able to use their benefits to purchase certain prepared foods, which limits choices for families shopping at SNAP-authorized retailers.
- And, as WIC comes up for renewal by Congress, the Administration supports addressing WIC eligibility limitations to avoid nutrition gaps during key stages of life.
