Hard Work Pays Off First Quarter

A large majority of students at Mears have posted very impressive grades for the 1st quarter, with well over half the student body earning Honor Roll status. 67% of 7th graders and 58% percent of 8th graders have a current grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. In terms of high school readiness, abundant research shows that a middle school GPA of 3.0 or higher, coupled with strong school attendance, is the best indicator of being ready to succeed in the 9th grade. All of us at Mears are extremely proud of our students' hard work and we are pleased that so many have earned strong marks during the first months of the school year. We are hopeful that this level of achievement serves to inspire even more students to do the same. Congratulations Panthers on such a strong 1st quarter!

October Writing Contest Winners

We received an impressive number of exceptional stories for the October writing contest. Selecting just two winners from among so many well-written stories proved challenging for judges.

In first place, for his terrifying story, is Finley Elson.

Runner up, for “The Murderer of Concord Lane” is Aila Marvin.

Thank you to the many students who entered haunting stories and gave our judges lasting nightmares.

Now, on to November’s theme which is family, culture, and ancestors. Write a story, either fiction or nonfiction, that centers on a cultural tradition or a family object.

See Panther Participation for full details and writing guidelines. Deadline is Wednesday, November 30th.

World Kindness Day

November marks the month that we celebrate World Kindness Day. Kindness is encouraged every day at Mears however November 13th is the official day when the power of kindness is celebrated globally. The Mears Bee Kind series (episode 3 on giving) is an excellent example of how we can go above and beyond to be kind to others.
