Periodic Table of the Elements
Christopher Johnson and Alex Haskovec
Atomic Mass
Atomic Mass is the about the sum of the number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus.
Atomic Number
Number of protons in the atom, located in the nucleus. The number of protons determines what element it is, it acts as an identity.
Periodic Groups
Periodic Groups are the individual columns on the periodic table.
Periods
The horizontal rows on the periodic table. This is organized by the atomic number. i.e: 1: hydrogen 2: Helium 3: Lithium, etc.
Metals
Elements that are characterized by their hardness, conductivity, luster and versatility.
Metalloids
Elements that have semi-metallic properties, yet still share characteristics with non-metals. They are electrical semiconductors.
Non-Metals
Any element that is not a metal.
Stair-Step-Line
The line that divides metals and non-metals on the periodic table. The stair-step-line is made up of Boron, Silicon, Germanium, Arsenic, Antimony, Tellurium, and Polonium(Metalloids).
