What Does it Mean to be Culturally Responsive?
12/8/2020 9:00-10:30 am
This professional development session is geared toward district classroom teachers, special education, ENL/Bilingual teachers, Related service providers, paraprofessionals and administrators and is a great introductory tool to discuss elements of Culturally Responsive Education and Pedagogy with educators. CRT is not a set of ‘best practices' but a practice that recognizes the mind-body connection involved in learning”. During time together, the following components will be explored: 1. Social-emotional impact of living in a racialized society 2. Student's use of cultural capital and tools (soft-wired) 3. Adult response "positively” (non-verbally and verbally) 4. Adult being constructive (helpful) in facilitating learning by building on cultural tools.
