Superintendent's Message
We've been back for 8 weeks now and you have been making a difference for our 1750+ students that we are fortunate to serve. Since our district has made great strides in transitioning to having students and teachers use Future Ready technology devices and apps, I thought I would lead by example by making my Soup Talk into a digital newsletter. As we continue on our professional journey together in the CSD I hope you have had a chance over the summer and into the start of this school year to rejuvenate and become inspired about the amazing work you do as educators. In many ways the start of this school year has been the best of my 4 years as your superintendent. I realize this is true because of the great work you all do every day for our kids. Teachers, staff, administrators & Board of Education members all working together to make our kids have the best learning experience we can provide. Thanks to your dedication and passion to be the best educator you can be for our kids, your willingness to try new things, build relationships, communicate and collaborate we are moving in the right direction as a district. I am proud of all of you and look forward to continuing our work together in order to make CSD a great place to work and learn!

Moving Forward This Year
As we go into the remainder of this school year, we will continue to help our students see themselves as leaders of their learning who can solve problems & create solutions, by using critical thinking, while having a deeper understanding of how character, citizenship, and communication all play an important role in their growth as a student and person. We will model why collaboration is an important skill to have in life. I am looking forward to seeing how you use the tools of CoT, RULER (K-5), NPDL, CCR, and other strategies to develop a student leadership mentality in your classroom. As we continue to work together to incorporate the identified Principles of Effective Instruction in our classrooms I look forward to a day when we have achieved a consistent student centered model of instruction in a learning environment that promotes the building of learning communities and deep understanding through the use of formative assessments and timely feedback. I share the "What is Moonshot Thinking" video with you once again as a reminder that we pride ourselves in moonshot thinking; which focuses in on creating a learning environment that aims for a 10 times improvement over what currently exists. It is thinking that allows all of us to take risks to solve the problems we face by using improved strategies and technology where appropriate that will make solutions possible for the problems we face. I hope many of us with band together this year to begin to use "Moonshot Thinking." (Thank you Principal Barsh for this reminder!)
