2nd Six Weeks News and Updates
2020-21 School Year
Parents and Students,
It's hard to believe that we are already into the month of November! What a great six weeks at S.I.S. filled with awesome spirit wear and exciting lessons in the classrooms! Our students are making great academic progress and continue to press forward with learning, even through this very different school year. I am impressed with the resiliency of our students and their enthusiasm for learning and being at school.
I am proud of how our students are following procedures relating to wearing their masks, navigating the “one-way” hallways, using the sanitizing stations properly, and really adjusting to the new normal of this pandemic.
I want to thank all of our parents and guardians who have been communicating with us about students who do not feel well, keeping their students home when they are sick, or letting us know of any situations as it relates to COVID-19. These actions really help mitigate the effects on our students, teachers and staff. The students have done tremendously well at adapting to this “new normal," and I am hopeful that we will be able to return to a sense of real normalcy in the near future. We are continuing to do all we can here to ensure the facility and classrooms are as safe as possible.
We are asking parents to continue to check their children for Covid-19 like symptoms, including fever, before departing for school. Schools will continue to conduct daily temperature checks for all faculty, students, and staff members. Teachers will continue to monitor students in their classrooms, and if a student is not feeling well, the teacher will contact the school nurse to provide care. Also, please remember that the Health Department will not be administering flu shots at school this year. If you’d like for your child to have the flu vaccine, most pharmacies are giving vaccines or you may take them to their primary care doctor.
Because the Covid pandemic has taken so much fun and joy away from our school year, we want to do something special for our students to brighten up our hallways. We are always working on ways to make your child’s school-year special, especially in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of our teachers had the idea of doing a "Fantasy of Trees" this year outside their classrooms for Christmas. Starting the first week of December, we will be decorating with different themes to help us "deck the halls" at Sevierville Intermediate. We could all use a little extra joy for this upcoming holiday season.
During this month of thankfulness, I want to say how grateful I am for our teachers and staff who spend countless hours preparing lessons, grading work, listening and meeting children’s needs and working tirelessly to help all of our S.I.S. children progress academically, emotionally and socially. I’m also thankful for you! The hours you spend helping and supporting your children in school are incredible. Please opt in to receive future messages from the BrightArrow Communication App/Tool that we sent out invites for on September 17. BrightArrow allows us to send voice, text, and email notifications with school-wide announcements, weather-related closures, etc. This software will translate our messages into many different languages and is a great way to receive communications from the school.
In closing, I want to thank you for your continued support and wish you and your family good health and a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Noelle Sutton, Principal
