How are English Learners identified?
The parent of any K-12 student enrolling in an Indiana school for the first time is given a Home Language Survey. A student with a language other than English included on the Home Language Survey is tested for English proficiency. A student who scores 5.0 or higher on the placement test is considered to be proficient in English and does not qualify for services as an English Learner. A student who scores below a 5.0 overall score is formally identified as an English learner.
What is an ILP?
The Individual Learning Plan is a specialized plan for each identified English Learner that details strategies, test accommodations, and instructional modifications to be implemented daily in the classroom to help English Learners be successful.
