New Information and Updates:

Cybersafety Lessons

Our school police officer, Officer Perez, visited phys ed classes today to talk to students about the importance of online safety. He addressed topics such as cyberbullying and the dangers of online trafficking. He will be visiting again next Friday to meet with the rest of our PE classes in all three grades. Students will be completing an exit ticket in homeroom to reflect on what they have learned. Cybersafety and bully prevention is one of our No Place for Hate lessons for this school year.

Chromebook Reminders

  • Be sure to charge your Chromebook every night so that it has a full charge for the next school day.

  • Bring your charger with you to school every day in case your battery gets too low.

  • Completely power down your Chromebook at night when you’re finished using it.
    • This helps to keep your Chromebook safe because when a Chromebook powers on, it goes through a safety procedure that keeps the operating system up-to-date with Google. It will automatically replace the operating system with the current version if it detects any discrepancies.
    • It also resets what is stored in your memory and helps to keep your Chromebook working properly.

  • Keep your Chromebook’s keyboard and trackpad clean with the help of an adult.
    • Always power down your Chromebook before cleaning it.
    • You can use an alcohol pad or a cotton ball/paper towel lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to wipe away dirt and film.
      • Do not saturate the keyboard or trackpad.
    • You can also use a can of compressed air blow away dust, crumbs, etc. from around the keys.

Repeated Information and Reminders:

Notes form the Nurse

Please see our monthly tips from our West nurse. It has come to our attention that there was an inaccurate rumor circulating on social media last week claiming that we are experiencing a lice outbreak at West. That is not true. However, this is the time of year that schools typically experience an increase in incidences of a variety of conditions, including lice. Therefore, some information on lice prevention is included below.

No Place for Hate

Middle School West continues to participate as a No Place for Hate school. Our next school-wide activity is our autism awareness lessons paired with the movie, Temple Grandin. Students will be viewing the film on January 25 (new date) and completing a variety of lessons to promote autism awareness, appreciation, and acceptance.

MackinVIA- Free eBooks & Audiobooks for Students!

Just a reminder that MSW is a member of the MackinVIA Connected Library Consortium. This allows our students to access hundreds of eBooks and audiobooks from anywhere they have internet access.

The MackinVIA app can be downloaded on phones and tablets, or you can use the website on any desktop computer/laptop/Chromebook (www.mackinvia.com). Students simply login using their BASD username and password.

An entire new year’s worth of titles were added to MackinVIA last week. This brings us to 1,412 total ebooks and 831 audiobooks.

Email Mrs. Palopoli (spalopoli@boyertownasd.org) if you have any questions.

School Meals

The federal government has discontinued free breakfast and lunch for all. Families who wish to apply for free or reduced meals can find the application here: https://www.schoolcafe.com/
