Valentine's Day
We will do our Valentine exchange when we get back to the classroom around 2pm. Students are asked to make Valentines and a Valentine box at home.
I've attached a class list for the Valentine cards: http://ow.ly/KGu1308AX3Z
Language Arts
- Winter Reading Challenge: We are in the home stretch of our Winter Reading Challenge! Students have just over a week to finish up their books. They needed to read three books on Raz-Kids, Two chapter books and one non-fiction book. Our reward for reading these is a sledding party at Kiwanis on Valentine's Day.
- Reading: This week students continued to focus on sequencing, but in a nonfiction text. We also reviewed how to summarize a nonfiction text.
- Writing: Students worked on revising and editing their persuasive essays.
- Grammar: Our focus was on the helping verbs, can, could, should, may, might and will.
Math
Social Studies and Science
Social Studies-
Students voted on the allocation strategy to be used to get food and game licenses. Students now know if they have a food or game license. They need to tell me what their business will be on Monday.
Science – We started a unit on energy. Students learned what energy is, and how it is transferred. They worked in groups to read our text and come up with important facts to share with the class. They also participated in an experiment in which they had to try to increase or decrease energy, the height of a ball on a ramp, and the angle of the ramp in order for the ball to land at a given point.
