No School Monday 2/18/18

Just a friendly reminder that Monday is a student holiday. We will have school on Friday 2/23 to make up for time missed due to Tropical Storm Irma.

Thank You!

Thank you to all of the fabulous volunteers that helped out this week. The school was filled with amazing parents working the book fair, counting pledge money, and serving up muffins and smiles during Muffins with Mom. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful and involved community.

Parent - Teacher Conferences & Early Release

Early Release conferences are next week. Dyer students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, February 21st and Thursday, February 22nd . Please be sure to note these important schedule changes.

To schedule your conferences this year, simply go to our school’s conference site and click on your teacher’s name. The ability to sign up for a conference online will close today, February 16th at 3:00pm. Please contact your child’s teacher directly to sign up after the close of online scheduling.

Still Accepting Fun Run Pledges!

Our first count day was a huge success. Thanks to the wonderful volunteers that helped count all of the pledge money. Receipts were issued for any cash received in the amount of $10 or more. If you forgot to send in your pledge money, it's not too late. We will be collecting through next Thursday, 2/22. We're also looking for a few more volunteers to help count, see link below.

Parents Can Get In On The Fun Too!

There are so many awesome things happening here at Dyer, and there's no reason that the kids should have all the fun! We still have several amazing opportunities for parents and family members to get involved, make new friends, and have a great time in the process. Whether it's counting pledges, helping at the Book Fair or helping out with Bingo Night, there is something for everyone. Please follow the links below to sign up!

Paws for Books Book Fair - February 12th - 23rd:

Do you love to craft or decorate? Is the book store your favorite hang-out on a Saturday afternoon? Maybe you want to get a glimpse of the dads and daughters during the dance? Ms. Langford has volunteer opportunities for everyone on various days at several different times. Don't miss this opportunity to spend time in our magical media center, (snacks and coffee will be provided too, it's better than Barnes & Noble). Click here to sign up for a shift that fits your schedule.

Dyer Fun Run Count Day - February 22nd:

Are you up for a little coffee, counting and camaraderie! Dyer is looking for a few folks to help count pledge money from our fun run. The folks from Boosterthon will be here too, and guide us every step of the way. If you can help for a few hours on the morning of Thursday 2/15 and/or Thursday 2/22, please click here to sign up.

Bingo Night - Friday, March 16th:

One of our Bears' favorite nights of the year is almost here! Join us for an evening of community fun, pizza and prizes! This is a big event, and we need a few folks to help pull it off. PTO is looking for folks that can help plan prior to the event at a time that works with their schedule, as well as the night of the event. Click here to sign up for a time that works for you.

Book Fair Is Here! 2/15 - 2/23

Dear Parents and Families:

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

· Set the example. Let children see you read.

· Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up

with changing tastes and reading skills.

· Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books

to read.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Book Fair dates:

Thurs. Feb. 15 – 8:30am – 2:30pm

Fri. Feb. 16 - 8:30am – 2:30pm

Healthy Habits - Please Read!

As you know, we are deep in the middle of cold and flu season! Please take a moment to review the Healthy Habits listed below. They will help keep you and your family healthy protected from all these nasty germs! Don't forget to remind your students of these ways to keep from getting ill too!

Georgia Parent Survey

Please help us improve our school by taking a few minutes to complete an important survey for the State of Georgia.

The Georgia Parent Survey is from the State of Georgia and assists with our College and Career Readiness Climate Star Rating. You may complete the State survey on your computer, smartphone, or tablet or in the Dyer Media Center. We would like ALL parents to complete this State survey, and all responses are anonymously submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Please click here to access the State survey.

We hope you will take a few minutes to complete this important survey to help us improve Dyer Elementary. Thanks for your support!

Bear Reader Program

The Bear Reader Program has begun. There are no special reading logs required. We are asking that the students read at least 20 minutes for five days of the week. The students already have reading logs that they have as part of their homework. Fill out the homework reading log every day. At the end of each month, the teachers will e-mail Mrs. Langford with the names of the students who have read at least 20 minutes for five days of the week. The students who complete this monthly reading goal will earn a brag tag. Brag tags are fun dog tags. The children will be able to collect a new brag tag at the end of each month. Let's see who can collect them all!

Birthday Wishes in Big Lights!

You may have noticed that birthdays can now be displayed on our school marquee. For just $5, you can wish your student a happy birthday during his/her birthday week. All proceeds benefit our "PAWS" initiative. (Summer birthdays will run during the last week of school, and during your child's birthday week.) To register your child, simply log into their MyPaymentsPlus account. Note: requests will be processed next business day.

Yearbook Orders

To order your copy of the 2017-2018 yearbook, simply log on to and enter our school's order number: 10768.
