American Association of School Librarians AASL 2019
The AASL National Conference will be within driving distance of Alabama school librarians this November 14-16, 2019 in Louisville, Kentucky!
I hope many of you are making plans to attend or making your case to be able to attend. It is a good time with increased professional development funds and new funds available.
Click here for more information about AASL 2019: https://national.aasl.org/attendees/
It will be a wonderful experience to learn, network, and gain new ideas and perspectives about school librarianship.
If you are attending AASL and have an ASLA shirt, please wear it to the Opening General Session on Thursday, November 14. ASLA only has a limited number of smaller sized shirts (smalls and mediums) and will try to have them at the conference.

2020 Young Heroes Awards
Do you know a student in grades 9-12 who has excelled in academics, given of himself/herself through public service, overcome adversity, or inspired others through deeds and strength of character? If you know someone who you think should be recognized for these accomplishments and a scholarship award of $5000, Alabama Public Television would like you to consider nominating them for the 2020 Young Heroes Awards. Five Alabama students will be honored this year.
Nominees must be Alabama residents who are not more than 18 years old and are still attending school. The children's parent or guardian must give permission for the nomination, along with permission for Alabama Public Television to use the child's name or likeness on the air. All entry forms and supporting material must be received by January 10, 2020. The winners will be notified in March, 2020.

APT + Fund for Teachers Grant $5,000 - $10,000
Consider applying for the Fund for Teachers grant to design your own learning experience! APT has had 107 teachers from Alabama (including librarians) receive this grant. You can read about them and their fellowships here. http://iqlearnonline.org/course/view.php?id=13
Some of Alabama's amazing school librarians have received this grant including Karen Scott, Holly Whitt, Rachel Brockman, Jamie Peerson, Donna Speegle, Chrisiti Williamson, Pam Berry,
Rosemary Adams and Donna Hendrix.
Click here to view the informational brochure. APT is a partner organization in the Fund for Teachers program. This is an amazing opportunity to receive $5000.00 as an individual teacher and $10,000.00 as a team of 2 or more.

Also, don't forget to send in shout outs and publicity to be included. Alabama School Libraries are amazing with many great events, instruction, and projects going on. I would love to share that with others.
