From The Principal
Picture day is almost here! Please see more detailed information below.
Thank you for all your support getting our hybrid model up and running. We are feeling very good about our safety routines, procedures and logistics. We have shaved 20 minutes off our car line in the afternoon. Just a reminder in the afternoon to stay in the lane you are in until your child comes out. We assign them a lane when we put them in the app and that is how they know where to go when they come out.
Also, in the morning please make sure to pull up to the front of the car line so we can get as many students out as possible. Please stay in your car and we will help get your student out so we can expedite the arrival process.
Thank you again for all you do to insure the safety and well-being of every scholar at Sunflower!
As always it is an honor to serve as the Principal of Sunflower Elementary.

Picture Day
Picture Day is this Thursday and Friday. Distance learners have the option to come and have their pictures taken as well! Distance learners whose last name begins with A-L will need to come Thursday, 9am- 11am. Last names M-Z will need to come on Friday, 9am-11am.
We are asking that parents wait outside until your student is done taking pictures to maintain the safety of others.
Safety Protocol and Logistics for Picture Day:
- Classes will come together, there will be no mixing of cohorts
- Pictures will take place in music room
- One student will go in at a time while the remainder of the class stands on the dots outside the room with masks on and maintaining 6ft distance
- Student will take off mask for picture only and then put it back on
- Students will exit out exterior door and wait on the dots outside for all classmates to be done
- DYL students will be escorted to the music room by staff, parents will wait outside
PowerSchool Contatcs
For safety measures please make sure we have updated contact information for both you and your emergency/pick up contacts. Anyone other than the parents picking up a student is required to be on the pick up list and have a car tag if picking up during dismissal. If you need to update your contacts please email them to Miss Zee.

Checkers/Hy-Vee Receipts and Box Tops:
Now that our scholars have returned to the building, we wanted to remind everyone of a simple way to earn education funds for our school. Save those Checkers and Hy-Vee receipts and Box Tops! There is a collection container in the Sunflower main entrance vestibule.
Winter Giving:
We will soon be launching our Winter Giving campaign. In the past this took the form of mittens hanging in the school foyer, with specific items listed for each family in need. THIS YEAR we will be sending out a Signup Genius with a list of items for each family. Please be on the lookout for the Signup in future communications!
Parent Liaison:
Calling all parent volunteers! This year we were unable to have an open house, where parents are able to sign up for room parent positions and volunteer for parties or additional school supplies.
In lieu of room parents, we are asking one or two (or three) parents to volunteer at each grade level to be the designated PARENT LIAISON for your child’s grade. This position might include assisting with grade level communications about parties or supplies, sending out Sign Ups, whatever needs arise and are communicated by your grade level teachers.
With all of the ups and downs and unknowns of this year, this would be very helpful to our teachers and scholars.
