A Message from Our Principal
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it is a time for everyone to reflect on all of the blessings that we all have. This is my sixth year as a part of Deshler Middle School faculty, and I can honestly say we have great students who are a joy to be around. Middle School is a tough age for everyone, students, teachers, and parents at every middle school in the world, but our kids make this place a great place to go to school.
Parents, I’m thankful for you working with the staff and myself as we have made a few changes this school year. Thank you for continuing to encourage and push your student academically to reach their fullest potential. Our PVO has been unbelievable this year. When I called Ashley Williams, Jessica Jones, Stephanie Mills, and Nikki Prince this summer about leading the PVO, I never imagined what they have put in place. I truly appreciate every parent that has been involved in making our PVO great this year.
Our central office staff led by Mr. Tate has been nothing but great to DMS. They have made it a priority to see this school improve in every way possible. Jason Fuller, our Maintenance Director, has overseen new ceiling tiles installed, the inside of the gym painted, and the much needed outside of the gym being painted. Our CNP staff goes above and beyond what any other lunchroom staff would do. They provide three opportunities for students to eat breakfast and are always eager to participate in whatever contest Mrs. Thigpen dreams up for the staff.
Last, but not least I would like to thank the staff at DMS. There are several new faces that you have seen featured in this newsletter over the past few weeks who have jumped in and done a great job. We hated to lose our long time secretary Christa Byrd, but we were able to replace her with Mrs. Rachel Hollingsworth who has been part of Tuscumbia City Schools for over a decade. While no school is perfect I truly believe what Robert Mullen told me 20 years ago, this is the greatest little middle school in America. I am truly thankful to be a part of this school, and it is all because of the people like you, those listed, and many more that truly value the mission and vision of Deshler Middle School. As always, it’s great to be a Deshler Tiger.

Teacher Spotlight
Rachel Hollingsworth - Secretary
Hello Tigers! My name is Rachel Hollingsworth and I am the new Secretary here at Deshler Middle! I have been an employee here within the Tuscumbia City School System for 13 years. Previously, I worked as a Special Ed Paraprofessional until September of this year and I am currently the secretary of DMS. I am married to my wonderful husband, Garl Hollingsworth, Jr, who is a graduating Tiger of 1989 and have two beautiful children, Tiana Hollingsworth and Tevin Hollingsworth. I graduated from Russellville, Alabama in 1993 and attended Shoals Community College. My family and I currently reside in Tuscumbia.
Fun fact: I love yorkies! I have a grand pup named Brodie that has stolen my heart!
Thank You!
