Swansboro High School
Weekly Updates November 17, 2019
It's been a great week at Swansboro High School with lots of academic opportunities for both students and staff. It was also a special week of community support. Mayor John Davis proclaimed November Month of the Swansboro High School band to highlight the wonderful accomplishments of Mr. Scott and our band students this season. We are also excited to share that we received two additional Communities in Schools grants totaling over $42,000. These grants will be used to update our cafeteria tables and outdated band equipment.
Wednesday marks the end of the 2nd grading period. We only have one 6 weeks left in the semester so please be sure to check grades and attendance on a weekly basis with your student. We have a handful of spots left in our spring Coastal Carolina Community College courses. This is an amazing opportunity to take college classes for free, right here on our campus. The classes are open to 11th and 12th grade students with a minimum GPA of 2.8 and will include Sociology 210 and Music 110. As a parent of a graduate, I can share that my daughter graduated from college a semester early by taking advantage of community college classes during high school. This week also includes our Jamaican Exchange! 7 educators from Swansboro High School will travel to York Castle High School in Browns Town, Jamaica (yorkcastlehighschool.com) to teach Monday-Friday. This will be an exciting cultural opportunity for our staff members. They have funded their travel on their own through fundraising efforts over the past few months. Stay tuned to our social media pages for updates about their experience.
Parents on our strategic planning team should note that our November meeting will be electronic. Project graduation will meet in the media center at 6 pm on Monday night. This week also includes our first indoor track meet, basketball at Lejeune, swimming at New Bern and wrestling at home on Wednesday. Our basketball teams will travel to Richlands on Thursday.
