Fourth Into Fifth Grade Transition Information

On June 1st or 2nd, fourth graders will be visiting the Middle School to learn all about 5th grade. Our hope is that students will become more familiar with the building as well as the 5th grade teachers. We will be buddying up each 4th grader with a 5th grader to learn how to navigate a typical 5th grade schedule and also get a feeling for the layout of the building itself. More information will be coming from Mr. Whipple, Middle School principal, in the near future.

Students entering 5th grade in the 2017-2018 are invited to participate in 5th grade Transition Camp at Big Hollow Middle School. This will be a fun-filled experience for students to participate in many different activities at the Middle School. Students will have the opportunity to practice their schedules, learn middle school expectations, learn on chrome books and participate in fun games and activities. Transportation is included with your registration! Students will attend for 3 sessions in August (8:30-11:30 AM August 15-17). More information is available on the Big Hollow website. Parents will be invited to join their child on Thursday for student led tours and wrap up activities.

Food Allergy Awareness Week is May 14-20!!!

Many students who attend our schools have serious life-threatening food allergies. We are working to build awareness with our students on this important topic.

Please see this link for activities you can do with your kids!

Pet Supply Drive

Please help our Girl Scout Troop, #45420 to collect some supplies for pets in need! They will be taking donations from May 10-May 31st! Please send your child to school with the items and they will be placed in donation bins. The local pet shelters could benefit from the following items:

  • pet food
  • treats
  • toys
  • paper towels
  • cat litter
  • bones
  • leashes
  • kong toys
  • blankets
  • towels
  • beds

Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and generosity!

Library Check Out

The last Library check out of the year will be May 12th. Please help your child remember to return his/her library book(s) no later than May 19th so that we can get all of our items inventoried before the end of school. Thank you for your help and cooperation!

Summer School Learning Opportunity Information

BHSD will be offering Summer Learning Opportunities in June! We will have Math and Reading Courses for current Kindergarten through 7th grade students as well as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) for current 4th-7th grade students.

Incoming 5th grade students will also have the opportunity to participate in a Transition Camp in August to learn more about 5th grade and orientation to the building.
