Harris County Clerk Needs Civic Minded Students
In 2019, Harris County hired 967 students from over 100 different high schools! These students played a crucial role in ensuring accessibility to the voters of Harris County while maintaining the integrity of the ballot box.
When students serve on Election Day they receive:
• $17 an hour (a $7 an hour raise from last year!)
• Paid training
• An excused absence from school
• A letter of recommendation from Harris County Clerk Dr. Diane Trautman
Students now have the opportunity to work as an Electronics Support Specialist, responsible for the set-up and maintenance of the elections equipment. Their aim is to have one Electronic Support Specialist at each of the Election Day polling locations.
We encourage students to apply by our priority deadline of January 31, 2020. Students that meet this deadline are more likely to be placed at a location close to their house as well as have first pick of training classes.
Attached a FAQ sheet as well as the permission form your students need to complete should they be interested in working. The application form is also available online here.
Big Questions Tournament
For more information about Big Questions debate, please contact Kristy Abusaid at kabusaid@harmonytx.org.
The HSAdv debate team will host an informational session about Big Questions debate on Saturday, January 11th from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in Room 401. The event is free and open to all Harmony middle school and high school students.
An Amazing Success
This victory is only because of the selfless and determined work of every single one of our members. They strive tirelessly to do their best in our club, and I'm proud that our effort paid off. I also want to highlight that this victory would not be possible without our debate coach, Ms. Abusaid, who puts in just as much, if not more, effort as her students.
We would also like to thank Mr. Reyes for selflessly volunteering his time and energy to supervise us when in need of a chaperone. Overall, we are happy for doing so well at this tournament, and we believe that if we put in the same effort to cooperate and prepare we will see similar victories in future tournaments.
HOSA students' achievement.
We are proud to celebrate our HOSA students' achievement. The following students took their online test to qualify for regionals and this year we have the largest number of students moving forward.
Please congratulate them if you see them, some have been trying for a couple of years to make it to this level.

From Counselor
The HS-Advancement Counseling Department is working to ensure both students and parents have the opportunity to connect with their assigned counselor!
Many parents have questions regarding academic progress, graduation requirements and college preparation that can easily be answered via email or by scheduling an appointment. While the first line of communication for many of these concerns should be your child’s teacher, counselors are also available to help guide you and your child through high school. Parents can click HERE or scan the QR code to gain access to the Advancement Counseling Department Information Request Form where they can either ask their questions or schedule an appointment with their child’s counselor.
Keep in mind counselors do not accept walk-in appointments but are happy to respond to any inquiries submitted through this form within two (2) business days. We look forward to partnering with you in ensuring your child’s preparation and success during high school and college!
ATTENTION SENIORS & SENIOR PARENTS: Fill out your FAFSA now!
You can visit www.fafsa.gov to begin your application and you will need your tax information to complete the process. If you have questions regarding how to complete the FAFSA, your tax preparer is a good resource to start with.
The Advancement Counseling Department also has handouts with simple instructions on how to begin and submit the FAFSA. We hope you will work with your student to ensure that this step in the college application process is completed - remember, the earlier you submit the FAFSA, the better chance your child has of receiving an adequate amount of aid!
Ho Ho Hoedown - Quiz Bowl
The Harmony Quiz Bowl team competed in the Ho Ho Hoedown city tournament at Strake Jesuit on Saturday, December 14th. After going 4-2 in the preliminary round, the team avenged their loss to Katy in the Quarterfinals and advanced to the finals where they fell short to Westside, placing second in Division II. The team is made of all freshmen and the future is looking bright for this group!
