SOLAR ECLIPSE
The Great American Eclipse, aka the "Ring of Fire" annular solar eclipse, is set for this Saturday, October 14, 2023!
An annular solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth while it is at its farthest point from Earth. Because the moon is farther away from Earth, it appears smaller than the sun and does not completely cover the star (sun). Although Florida is not in the path of seeing a total eclipse, we will be able to see a partial eclipse (50 to 60%).
If we have clear skies, make sure to head outside on Saturday morning. In our area, the partial eclipse will be visible starting around 12:00 p.m. and until around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Peak viewing time is at 1:30 p.m.
IMPORTANT
Students were given special glasses to use to view the eclipse. They MUST be used, as looking at the eclipse without the glasses can damage the eyes. PLEASE USE THE GLASSES!
LOWER AND UPPER SCHOOL SCIENCE EXPERIMENT
Students created volcanoes using lemons as a fun and engaging science experiment that combined the excitement of a volcanic eruption with the natural acidity of lemons. By hollowing out a lemon and adding baking soda, dish soap, and food coloring, students simulated the eruption of a volcano. The lemon acted as a mini volcano, with the baking soda and dish soap reacting to create a fizzy eruption, while the food coloring added a visual effect. This hands-on activity not only taught students about chemical reactions but also sparked their curiosity and encouraged them to be engaged during the lesson.
BROVO, DR. SHARE!
UPPER SCHOOL SPANISH
Upper-school Spanish students had fun practicing numbers 0-100 in Spanish while playing a card game called 99. The 99 card game is an interdisciplinary lesson where students utilize their math skills while speaking in Spanish phrases and numbers.
AWESOME, MS. DUGAN!
