Famine and rebellion in Japan
In the time period of Tokugawa Japan the social hierarchy began to slowly crumble as peasants obtained luxuries originally possible by high status shogunates. The Shogunates however disliked this and made a decree that peasants should remain in farms and wear crappy clothing. The peasants ignored this and continued getting wealthy through being merchants and artisans in cities. But in the 1830s a severe famine struck them and the Shogunate failed to meet ends which led to rebellion thoughtout
Second Opium war in China 1856-1858
Britain won the second Opium war as well which led to more losses by China of the emperor's Summer palace, more humiliations, more ports open to foreign traders, those trades travelled freely and bought land freely, preached Christianity, lost control of Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan etc. The proud Middle Kingdom was being practically taken over and dependent upon western powers including even Japan. China became what was known as an "informal empire" which is a weak dependent empire that remained in power, but wasn't actually powerful.

U.S. commodore Matthew Perry's "black ships stemmed into Tokyo Bay in 1853 and forcefully demanded that Japan open trade with them otherwise it was war. So the Japanese did comply to avoid war, and the result was miraculous unlike for China and theO Ottoman Empire. The Japanese jumped to new heights with heavy industrialization and then joined the European club of powers
Meiji Restoration in Japan 1868
After a brief civil war due to the continued erosion of the shogunate following Perry's arrival. In 1868 it led to a political takeover by a group of young samurai in southern japan. This was known as "The Meiji Restoration", it's goal was to save Japan from foreign domination but not through R futile resistance. They would create a transformation of Japanese society by using all knowledge and tactics that the modern west has to offer. They were even able to acquire a new government that focused on building up Japan without disruption due to little western pressure as opposed to China.
Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905
A war between Japan and Russia that had an astounding result of Japanese victory. It shocked the Russians and triggered the 1905 revolution on that country. It got Japan a lot of credit as it established them on the same ground as the European powers and now showed Japan as a formidable opponent against the Europeans and Americans militarily, economically and politically in Asia. This gained Japan worldwide admiration among this who saw Japan as a model for their own modern development and perhaps as an ally in the struggle against imperialism.
Young Turk takeover the Ottoman Empire 1908
Young Turks came into play who were civilian and military elites that preferred European ways and democratic government as opposed to the old imperial ways of the Empire that was brought back.
They took over the Empire then shaped it in their own way. They continued to modernize, industrialize and westernize the empire to pave the way for what modern turkey is today.
