ABC COUNTDOWN
We are nearing the final days of school! Can you believe how quickly this year has passed!? We will be celebrating the last 26 days of school by having an ABC COUNTDOWN TO SUMMER!
Below is a copy of the ABC schedule in which we encourage you and your child to countdown and mark off each day in anticipation of the final day in school! Many days are themed with activities which will not involve much effort from home. However, a few activities will involve your support. On select days, students will be asked to bring in an item to celebrate. We appreciate your support in making each of these days special.
Robotic Camp
The robotics students at Plano ISD Academy High School and Plano Senior High School are running a variety of camps this summer and would like the attached information (robotics summer camp flyer) to go out to students.
Alternatively, feel free to use the attached file called robotics camp icon and the blurb below in your eNews:
Looking for a fun camp this summer? Come work with the Academy High School Robotics Team and the Plano Senior High School Robotics Team to learn about engineering and problem solving by having fun at this hands-on camp!
Summer is not only about good weather, it’s also about great ROBOTS! Titan Robotics and Chain Reaction Robotics will be hosting the NTX Camps of Engineering that will give you an opportunity to build, solve problems and create using LEGO® Mindstorms, and complete a variety of other engineering challenges.
Campers will also get a chance to check out robots built by high school students! Find out more at https://www.ntxrobotics.com
Not Returning to Barksdale Next Year
In order to plan for the closing of this school year and for the start of the 2019-2020 school year, we would appreciate information from families who plan to move out of the Barksdale community.
If you have moved out of the boundary for Barksdale during the current school year or know for certain that you will be moving before the start of school, please complete the information below and return the form to the office by May 10, 2019. Also, it is the practice that our school district does not allow parents to hand carry student records. Records will be mailed after a request is received from the new school.
What We Are Learning
Math
Next week in math we start our FINAL unit of the year. We will be focusing on personal financial literacy. Students will begin to understand the relationships between income, saving vs. spending, and needs vs. wants.
Language Arts and Social Studies
In social studies, we have been talking about community helpers and different jobs in our community. We will be discussing the relevant and different skills you may need to perform a job successfully.
Science
Next week in science we will be learning about the life cycle of a plant. Students will apply their prior knowledge as they identify and compare the plant life cycle. We have many fun hands-on experiences planned for your children this week so say tuned!
