What is Bullying?
Mean or cruel actions that are repeated over a lengthend period of time for the sole purpose of degrading the victims self-esteem or sense of safety.
EVERYONE IS MADE DIFFERENT- IT'S NOT SOMETHING WE NEED TO FIGURE OUT. IT'S JUST SOMETHING WE NEED TO RESPECT.
Types of Bullying
- Overt and Direct with physical behaviors, such as pushing or hitting
- Verbal, with insutls and threats
- Hidden, such as gossiping or plaing mean jokes
- Cyberbullying, abusive texts, emails or social media posts
The Impact of Bullying
- Education: missing school, decline in grades, inability to concentrate, loss of interest, droping out
- Health: sleeping problems, low self-esteem, increased anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress
- Safety: self-isolation, aggression, self harm, fear of other students, retaliation, suicide contemplations or attempts
Ways to Stop Bullying
- Treat others with Respect- why is this so hard? Nobody should be mean to others
- If you feel like you might be being mean, apologize
- Talk to an adult you trust- they can help you be nicer to others
- Stand up for others!
