Welcome Back To Another Great Adventure!!!
For both our returning parents and "new to us" parents my name is Ryan Miller and I have the pleasure of serving as principal of Alta Mesa Elementary School. This is a very special place to be a part of. The school Community at Alta Mesa is one of a kind. We care deeply about our students and their development not just academically, but physically, socially, and emotionally. We have one of the best teaching staffs in the Northstate. Our goal at Alta Mesa is to "Enrich the Hearts and Minds" of all our students so that they leave feeling inspired to seek out their potential in life.
In order to create the best possible educational environment for our students we believe in the school to home partnership. Alta Mesa is considered a Community School where we seek out to provide support and resources to our families beyond the normal school day. A big piece of the partnership between school and home is communication. Every week I send home this newsletter to parents through email and text accompanied by a phone call that summarizes the key highlights. This newsletter is the backbone of the school-to-home communication at Alta Mesa. All important pieces of information is found here. Please take the time to look over this newsletter week to week. Please make sure to read over this newsletter each week for the most up to date information.
The adventure starts soon! Enjoy your last days of Summer Break!!
Thank You,
Ryan Miller

Upcoming Events and Campus Updates
First Day of School is August 16th!!!
We will welcome back our students to campus on August 16th. Gate # 1 will open at 7:40 for students to enter for breakfast. Our Kindergarten gate opens at 8:05. For TK-3rd grade class starts at 8:20 for 4th and 5th grade class starts at 8:05. Parents are welcome to walk their students to class on the first day of school.
Incoming TK/Kindergarten Assessments
Our TK and K teachers will be doing initial kindergarten assessments on Monday (8/7) and Wednesday (8/9) this week. The assessments are to get a sense of the prior knowledge students are entering their classes with. These assessments are about 20 minutes long. They are by appointment only, so if you haven't scheduled a time please call our office at (530) 224-4130.
Back to School Night
We are moving back to a traditional Back to School Night which will occur on Wednesday, August 23rd from 5:30-7:00. We will start with remarks and staff introductions in the gym at 5:30 followed by two classroom sessions at 6:00 and then again at 6:30. Back to School Night is for parents to meet their child's teacher and learn how the classroom operates.
School Meet and Greet August 15th
We create space for our students to find their classrooms and meet their teachers prior to the first day of school. This allows them to feel more comfortable and know where to go and who to connect with when they start school. Our classrooms will be having a meet and greet on Tuesday, August 15th from 11:30-1:00. Gate 1 and the Kindergarten Gate will be open as well as the office for parents and students to enter through.
Campus Projects
We have had several projects happening throughout the campus this Summer. Some are still being worked on as you read this letter. Here is a list of some improvements throughout our campus.
- All classrooms were upgraded with new Cleartouch Boards.
- Our front playground received much needed attention with new playground equipment and boardwalks placed over open treewells.
- Handicap accessibility was added to the back of our campus.
- New bark was added to the 1st-5th playground

Beginning Of The Year Information
Parent Portal Log-In
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning-of-the-year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please call our school's office at 224-4130. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
Free Breakfast/Lunch for All Students
Alta Mesa is fortunate in that we have an amazing cafeteria staff (lead by Mrs. Claudia O'Dell pictured here) that provide top notch service to our students. All students eat well balanced meals at Alta Mesa and no student pays for breakfast or lunch! So don't fret about packing that lunch as our cafeteria is always available!
Our 4th/5th Grade Start Time has slightly Changed (See schedule below)
