Dynamic Broncos Weekly Update
December 1st - 5th
Greetings!
Reading Workshop
We continue to strengthen our predicting muscles as we read Because of Winn Dixie. We have been practicing using everything we know about a character to predict not just what they will do but how the story will unfold.
This week we will talk more about how, as readers we pull in to read, but we also pull back to read. We read like we are a character in our book, but we also read like we are a professor, growing intellectual ideas about the book, examining the text to grow ideas. Most of these ideas will focus on the characters in our books.
You can support our work in the classroom by checking in with your child as they read for nightly independent reading and asking them to stop and chat with you about their predictions. Encourage them to explain not just what will happen to their characters, but how it will unfold. This may spark interesting conversations about theories your child is developing about the characters in their books.
Writing Workshop
Many students are at a point in their writing where they will need to decide if they want to stick with their current story and take it all the way through the editing and publishing process or whether they will start a second piece of writing. Each writer will need to be their own "job captain" and decide how their piece is going, what they need to work on to make it stronger or whether they will begin another piece.
Vocabulary
This Wednesday's Vocabulary assessment has been moved to Thursday. Having been away from these words to give the kids a bit more time with these words. Please visit the vocabulary website this week with your child to help them study for the assessment on Thursday. Tomorrow and Wednesday night's homework will be to study our words from Unit 4.
