HG Robots Nearly Sweep the Competition

Hazel Green Robotics had a great first event with teams placing first in sportsmanship, driving skills, and programming skills. We also took two out of three tournament champion slots and won the Excellence Award! Congratulations to our Hazel Green Robotics students and Coach Sims! Also, thank you Student Ambassadors, Coach Glenn, Mrs. Havner, Mrs. Mayes, and Mr. Jones who helped out this weekend! Loud and Proud, Trojan Nation!

Go HG Bowling

Great first season for Hazel Green Bowling! The boys ended with an 11-6 season. Girls improved all season! Great job, Coach Williams and the HG Bowling Team! Loud and Proud, Trojan Nation!

Ambassadors Meeting

There is an Ambassador Meeting tomorrow, January 12th before and after school in the AG room. Looking forward to seeing you there!

HOSA

HOSA competition practice is tomorrow, January 12th, and Thursday, January 14th, at 3:30 PM in Mrs. Stutheit's room S210.

National Honor Society

There will be an NHS meeting before and after school on Wednesday, January 13th, in Mrs. Coles room.

The Gaming Club

The Gaming Club will be taking pictures on the stairwell Wednesday, January 13th, at 8:00 AM.

Prom Committee Meeting

Prom Committee Meeting tomorrow, January 13th, Room C110 at 3:35 PM. Any Junior who wants to help with Prom is eligible to participate on Prom Committee and should plan to attend the meeting. Deadline to purchase a Prom ticket will be February 29th. See Mrs. Dean (C1120) or Mrs. Bell (N213).

Freshmen Academy

Our Freshmen Academy students will attend a field trip on Thursday, January 14th. Attached is the agenda for the day.

FCA Meeting

FCA meeting this Thursday, January 14th, at 8:00 AM in the library. Jordan McGill will be our guest speaker. Mr. Bell encourages everyone to attend!

Hazel Green Basketball

Varsity Girls come away with the 47-33 area win over Bob Jones making them 20-3 on the season and 4-0 in area play! Loud and Proud, Trojan Nation! The Trojan Nation will tip-off again, January 15th, against the Senators at Sparkman. Varsity Boys will tip-off at 7:30 PM; Varsity Girls and Freshman Boys at 6:00 PM; and Junior Varsity Teams this afternoon at 4:30 PM. Look forward to seeing you there!

Debbie B. Rice Memorial Scholarship

Alabama Educational Technology Association (AETA) announces a $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to a public high school senior enrolled in a school system with a delegate member in this organization. Madison County Public Schools is seeking graduating seniors with a record of volunteerism in the community in both non-school sponsored and extracurricular school activities. The recipient must attend an accredited college/university or technical school located in the state of Alabama. The applications will be reviewed and recipient of the scholarship selected by a committee of volunteers. The scholarship will be awarded at AETA Winter Meeting in Montgomery, March 2016. Dave Draper Sr. Memorial Scholarship

Enclosed is the 2016-2017 Dave Draper Sr. Scholarship Application. Please distribute to any eligible graduating seniors. Photocopies of the application can be made as well for the students. Applications with all supporting documents must be postmarked by March 7, 2016. We look forward to the potential applications coming from the students of Hazel Green High School.

Future Trojan Baseball Camp

Baseball players in the 4th through 8th grade are invited to attend the 2016 Future Trojan Baseball Camp during the month of January. The cost is $100.00 and it covers eight, one-hour sessions! Please see the attached flyer for training dates and how to register! Look forward to seeing you out on the field!

Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form into Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.


Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend
- Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of the school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

First Priority/FCS
meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Black Box Theatre. All students are welcome to attend.

PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.


Recycle:
Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.


Reward Cards:
Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit:
Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.

(Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag, just stop by the main office to pick one up.
