NPHS Cougars
Return to School 2023-2024
To All NPHS Cougar Families
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! All of us at North Providence High School are looking forward to welcoming our ninth-grade students starting on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. All other students will report on Wednesday, August 30th. Hopefully, the summer has provided you with opportunities to spend time with family and friends. It truly was a beautiful New England summer. It continues to be an honor and a privilege to serve as a school leader in this student-centered learning community. As we begin another year, we are reminded that the beginning of school is truly a special time, and we are looking forward to working together.
The beginning of each school year is filled with great anticipation. We know that this is especially true this school year. The faculty and staff have been busy preparing the school and classrooms for an exciting year of learning and growth. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for student success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that they:
Attend school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience.
Inform you if they need additional support in any area or subject.
Demonstrate respect toward students, teachers, and staff.
Strive for excellence through hard work, and perseverance.
School Photographs:
On Friday, October 27, 2023, all students in grades nine through twelve will be photographed by Legacy Studios. Underclassmen should be receiving a packet in the mail from Legacy Studios with information on how they may purchase school photographs. Students in grades nine through eleven should bring this order form with them on the day of school portraits.
With respect to formal senior portraits, all seniors should have taken their portraits during the summer. If you have not yet done so there will be one final opportunity, October 23 through the 25th between 2:30 and 8:00 PM. A reminder to all seniors that senior photographs should meet yearbook requirements.
Course Changes:
Students choose courses and programs based on the recommendations and best judgment of teachers, school counselors, the student, and parents. Parent input is gathered at course request time through the completion of the course scheduling form.
All requests for change will be decided on an individual basis taking into consideration all circumstances involved. Staffing and class size will be considered regarding the proposed change.
Freshmen Orientation
Freshmen student orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 29th. Student schedules have been posted to their Skyward account. All grade 9 students will begin their day with an assembly to acclimate them to North Providence High School. Students will report directly to the cafeteria to start their day.
Free & Reduced Lunch
Just a reminder in order to qualify for a free or reduced lunch, you MUST fill out a meal application form. You must add money to your school meal account to buy any food or beverage items. Prices will remain the same as last year.
Breakfast $1.25- Reduced- $.30
Lunch $3.00- Reduced-$.40
Information on your school meal application:
- Applications can be found here
Applications are confidential and information is NOT SHARED with teachers, school staff, other students, or other agencies.
You only need to complete one application for all children in your household.
Please note, as with every year, students will remain at the last year's eligibility status through the first 30 school days. After October 13, 2023, if no application has been submitted or completed online for a student the student will revert to Full Pay.
Technology, Internet Access, and Reporting
We will be continuing our usage of Google Apps for Education. All students, grades 9-12, will receive a Chromebook upon request. The Chromebooks are school property and students are expected to maintain proper care of these devices. All NPHS students have school Google accounts and should be using them regularly for academic purposes only.
NPHS believes that technology plays an important role in enhancing the learning experience for our students. While we concede that smartphones offer learning opportunities, students do not need them during class time because they all have access to school devices. Smartphone use during class largely takes away from academics and leads to distraction. Students who fail to comply with teacher expectations will face consequences consistent with our code of conduct.
Cell phones are NEVER to be used to photograph, video record, or audio record another student or staff member without their consent. Any student in violation of this will be subject to strict disciplinary consequences, as outlined in the student handbook.
