Adopt a Family Thank You
Northwest Community Schools would like to thank the Mountie Nation - students, staff, businesses, and community members - who very generously helped with our annual Adopt-a-Family program. We collected food and toiletry items for 65 families, 45 of those families also received clothing, books and toys for every school age and younger child. An additional 31 families were gifted full holiday meals for their families. Your generous help will touch more than 170 school aged (or younger) children in the Mountie Nation. We greatly appreciate anyone who donated to and volunteered with our program.
Thank you to each of our school buildings, The First Church of the Nazarene, Hankerd Hills, Klavon’s, Klavon’s 2, and the Lost Shoe for hosting giving trees.
A very special thank you to MANY local families and MANY NW Staff members and their families, the Hankerd Hills’ ladies golf league, the Lost Shoes’ pool leagues and the Lost Shoe, the Jackson Area Antique Tractor Club, the Zion United Methodist Church’s Women, NWHS’s Vocal Dimension and Serenade! Choir programs, Peak Manufacturing Staff, Henry Ford Allegiance Family Medicine North Region, the NW PTO, the American Legion Post 29, the NWHS National Honor Society, the NWHS Economics class, the NWHS STEM program, several other classes at NWHS, Huff Auto Group, Extreme Dodge, Avery Oil & Propane, Orthopedic Rehab Associates PC, multiple departments at Consumer’s Energy, Willis & Jurasek, and Crossroads Gas Station for their very generous donations, including adopting several families.
Thank you to so many students, families, staff and community members who grabbed ornaments from the trees, made monetary donations, helped sort and write ornaments, wrapped presents and so much more. One toothbrush, one box of mac and cheese, one toy, and one book at a time – our community rallied together to make the holidays brighter for 65 families in our district. We are blessed to live in a community filled with love and compassion for our neighbors.
It is such a blessing to be able to count on the spirit of kindness in our community. Thank you very much for instilling the spirit of giving in our community and for being an inspiration to all. WE ARE NORTHWEST!

Attendance Update
We had many classes enjoy an extra recess for spelling out "Perfect Attendance" in December and many classes are working towards theirs in January. We have had multiple classes earn more than one already this year!
Please see our attendance data below that shows the percent of students absent between November 18 and December 18. As we continue to work on attendance, we hope to see more students move into the green and yellow zones and less in the red.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Drop-Off
Pick-Up
If you will be picking your child up, please make sure to send a note to the teacher, or call the office. If calling the office, please do so before 3:00 p.m. This will allow us to get lists finalized and given to the teacher. If you call after this time, your request unfortunately will not be honored. We will not pull children off the bus for late calls. You will need to meet them at the bus stop. When picking up your child please park in a designated parking spot and not along the drop-off curb. Make sure to bring a photo ID. Parents are asked to wait in the cafeteria until students are dismissed. Students will be dismissed by grade starting at 3:32 p.m on full days, and 2:27 p.m. on Early Release days. When exiting the parking lot please do not turn around in the Lansing Avenue Baptist Church parking lot.
Parking Lot
Thank you for your continued patience with the volume of traffic during our drop-off and pick-up times! You are doing a fantastic job of parking in parking spaces, driving slowly in the parking lot and being timely in your efforts. Please remember when dropping off a student to only drop them off when you have reached the sidewalk.
Morning Tardiness
We encourage promptness since tardies affect everyone and disrupt classroom time. One of the most valuable life skills a student can learn from his/her parent/guardian is the responsibility of arriving at school every day on time. Morning is the time when important school news is announced, teachers define the plans for the day, and instructional goals are reviewed and set. The whole tone of a child’s school day is set in the first part of the day.
Main doors open at 8:15 a.m.
School starts at 8:25 a.m.
Students not in their classroom seat by 8:35 a.m. shall be considered tardy.
If the supervisory aides are not present when you drop off your student, they are tardy. Please make sure to come in the office and sign them in.
Students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. will be marked as a morning absence.
Doctor appointments/professional appointments are excused with a doctor's note.
Please help support your child in learning habits that will help them be successful at school and throughout life. If you need help or have concerns getting your child to school on time, please contact the office. We are here to help.
Medicine Procedures
- Do not send any medication on the school bus. Medication could easily be taken by the wrong child when it is not monitored by an adult. It is the parent's responsibility to bring medication into the Northwest Elementary office and check it in with a secretary.
- Over-the-counter medications (cough drops, Tylenol, Tums) must have a doctors order.
- No staff member will be permitted to dispense non-prescribed, over-the-counter (OTC) medication to any student with out a medication form filled out by a prescribing physician.
