A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
It was a great week as we welcomed back about 25 students on Tuesday! For them, it was like a new school year, meeting new friends and remembering what being in-person at school is like. Adding new students to school has created a few more cars in the car rider line, we've had a shortage of bus drivers, and a car broke down in the line so it has been extra long this week. Through all of this, you've been patient! I thank you for that and hope that things will get better next week!
A reminder for drop-off. Please DO NOT come before 8:45 to drop off your child UNLESS he/she is eating breakfast. Those dropping off for breakfast cannot get out of the line because the 8:45 people are clogging up the line. We cannot accommodate 2 separate lines, so we appreciate you waiting to arrive at school until you HAVE you drop off your child! Thanks for helping with this.
Also, please note that we use the blacktop playground until 2:50, so please do not pull past the gate if arriving before that time. Once our car rider line gets moving, it does go very quickly, getting everyone through by 3:35.
Thank you to those of you who attended conferences via Zoom this week. If you didn't sign up and want to do so for next week on Tuesday, please do so. If you need the link, please call Mrs. Hurd or Mrs. Hahn to get scheduled.
Have a good weekend!

Zoom Clarification for In-Person Learners
If your child has COVID symptoms or is exposed to someone at home with COVID symptoms, and cannot attend school, please notify the office immediately.
A student with COVID symptoms is not required to login to class to live stream if he or she is ill; however, you have the option of having your child live stream if you feel that your child is feeling well enough to be online. If they feel well enough and will be logging in, please let your child’s teacher know so that the teacher will let him/her into the Zoom session.
If your child is quarantining they are expected to be logging into all of the classroom Zoom sessions throughout the day. If your child is home on quarantine and cannot login for any reason, you should call your child off school like you would any other day. If you have any questions please let me know.
If your child is off of school for anything not “COVID” related, he/she will not be permitted to join a Zoom session.
A message for our remote learners
- The next material pick-up/drop-off date is February 16th from 9:30-1:30. Drop off the red envelope with any work your child may have to turn in. Even if you do not have something to return, please bring the envelope. We will give you the yellow envelope with new work.
- Please keep the office informed if your child will be absent from the live streaming. This is important for attendance purposes. Also, it is important for your child to log in on time so the teacher can let your child into the Zoom session. If your student is late, he/she may not be able to get into the session.

- March 15

Children's Advantage at Suffield
Counselor's Corner
2/5/2021
Hello Field Families!
I hope everyone is staying warm with this February weather! I wanted to send out some information about anxiety. Unsurprisingly I am seeing an uptake of students who are dealing with anxious feelings. First, I would like to talk about some specific things that you can do, as a parent or guardian, to help your child manage their anxiety. One of the most important things to remember when children feel worried or anxious is to not dismiss their feelings.
While their feelings might seem unwarranted to us, they are very real to the child experiencing them. By reminding children that it is okay to feel anxious, we validate their experiences and give them permission to work through it.A practical tip for helping children work through anxiety, and to help them manage it in a way that doesn’t take over their lives, is to have them write down their worries when they come up. Children can then place the worries in a container, and you can set a time of the day or week to go through them together. This provides a safe space for children to work through their worries and to see that you will process their feelings with them.
As you help your child work through their worries, it is important to help your child focus on what they can control. For example, if your child is worried about a test coming up, remind them that they can’t control which questions are on the test, but they can control how they prepare.
Lastly, when supporting children who are feeling anxious, it is important to make sure your own anxieties are in check. Different life circumstances can leave us all feeling anxious. Our kids can pick up on this, so it is important that we, as adults, are using our own coping strategies to manage our anxieties.
If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me! Also please check out my website to sign up for coffee with the counselor and or to contact me for your child's needs! School Counselor's Corner

Crayola Colorcycle Program
Crayola and schools across North America have banded together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. Suffield Elementary will now take part in recycling markers that no longer work. It’s a super easy project to help our environment! You can send in any brand of markers, sharpies, dry erase, and highlighters. Once we collect the markers, they will be shipped to a facility that repurposes them so that they are kept out of the landfills.
