The 16th Street Chruch Bombing
On the sunday of september 15, 1963, the Ku Klux Klan bombed the 16th street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama killing four girls.Fourteen year old Addie Mea Collins, Cynthia Wesley, Carol Robertson and eleven year old Densie McNair were found in the ruble of the basement bathroom Following the event white strangers visited the grieving families. There was a single funeral for three of the four girls. One family had a private funeral for the fourth girl. More than 8,000 mourners, including 800 clergymen of both races, attended the service. No city officials braved the crowds to attend.violence broke out in the after math of the bombing. Two more young African Americans died.
