Peek at the Week

Chatham Chats
What an awesome turnout on Saturday for Harbins Days! Thank you to our amazing PTA who worked so hard to create a day of fun for our entire community. I DID kiss the pig, and I am pretty sure I was dunked at least 50 times. My husband, the principal at McConnell, even subjected himself to the dunk tank! Mr. Samuel, "the ice cream man", also offered his services! It was great to see so many of our families there enjoying a beautiful day together. Make sure you check out our Harbins PTA page for some great pictures from the day! We are blessed by the PTA's support of our teachers and children. This truly is a partnership.
Remember our 2nd and 5th graders will be taking the Iowa test each day this week (information below). Please make sure your children are at school on time for this important test.
Looking forward to another great week. It is GREAT to be a Harbins Tiger!

Iowa Test for 2nd and 5th grade;
2nd and 5th grade students will participate in the Iowa Assessment Monday 10/19 - Friday 10/23. We will begin testing everyday promptly at 8:30am.
The Iowa Assessment is a norm-referenced test that measures student achievement in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The test can help identify learning strengths and the areas in which greatest improvement is needed. Scores can also be used to compare students' performance with the performance of other students in the same grade throughout the nation.
Tips for parents to support their child during testing.
- Make sure your child is in attendance and on time on test days.
- Keep to your regular routine.
- Students need a good night’s sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and a positive attitude.
- Encourage your child to do her best.
4th Grade Service Project
“Harbins Fourth Grade students are sponsoring a service project for the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services. Collection for items will be during the week of October 19-26. Please consider donating: canned proteins (tuna, ham, etc.), canned soups and fruits, mac & cheese, peanut butter & jelly, and personal care items – tooth brushes, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, soap, toilet paper. These donations will benefit Gwinnett shelters, group homes, and food pantries. Together, we can make a huge impact on the lives of others in our community! You can send these items to school with your child, drop them off at the front office, or deposit them in boxes at car rider lines. Thank you so much for your assistance during the upcoming holiday season! –Fourth Grade Students and Teachers”

Important Clinic News
Parents,
Please DO NOT send any kind of medicine or Natural Oils to school with your child. The oils are considered a medicine by the county, so they need to be kept in the clinic with the proper forms. This includes cough drops, tylenol, Benedryl, any kind of creams (calamine, Benadryl, neosporin, or toothache gel) or inhalers. All of these must be kept in the clinic. A parent must bring these in and fill out the correct paperwork. Any questions please call Ms. Samples in the clinic. 770-682-4272.

Safety Reminder
Teachers and staff are engaged with children from 7:45 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Please help us preserve that time. We ask that if you need to speak with a staff member, you set up a time with that person. This way, we can ensure we are devoting our attention to the children in the building and making sure we meet your needs.
