Summer Building Hours

While the teachers are away for the summer, our main office will be open during the following hours:

  • Monday-Thursday: 7:00-3:30
  • Friday: Closed

These dates and times are subject to change. We encourage you to call ahead if you're planning to come to the building. Our office number is (319) 558-2452.

PowerSchool to Infinite Campus

Over the summer, our district is transferring student information systems from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus. Our staff began training after students were dismissed for the summer. This learning will continue throughout the summer and into our pre-service next year. Infinite Campus is the system used for attendance and grades. As the summer continues, we'll be sure to pass along information to families so you're aware of how to use the system.

Free Breakfast & Lunch For All Franklin Students in 2019-20

Federal funding through Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) allows the Cedar Rapids Community School District to expand access to healthy school meals for student success. We are pleased to announce next year our school will participate in a new meal program which allows all students to receive one (1) breakfast and one (1) lunch at no charge daily.

Students, including siblings, attending schools not covered under CEP can still be considered for free or reduced meals by completing the online Free and Reduced Lunch Application. Apply online at after July 1, 2019 for 2019-20 School Year.

More information will be shared this summer in our Back to School mailing.

Raptor Entry System

Part of the District' Safety Task Force's work was to examine the process we use when allowing visitors in our buildings. During the 2018-19 school year, buildings across the district began using the Raptor Entry System when adults enter the building to work with groups of students. Visitors will be need their drivers license that will be scanned with a badge printed out. We will have scanners in our Attendance & Main Office. A sticker will then be printed that visitors will be expected to wear while in the building. The way the Raptor System works is the drivers license is scanned and crosschecked with the sex offenders list. The ultimate goal of the system is not to limit our visitors, but ensure our students and building are safe.

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be mailed out the week of June 17. These mailings will not include results from the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). We anticipate receiving these results around October. These will be mailed out when we receive them.

Summer Football Camp

See the form for this summer's football camp. This camp is intended for 2019-20 7th and 8th Grade students. The dates for the camp are August 19-21 from 4:00-6:00PM at the Franklin Football field. The purpose of the camp is:
  • Get in shape; learn the offense and defense
  • Have fun; build team unity
  • Improve skills; prepare for 2019 football season

Summer Meals

The Food and Nutrition Department will be sponsoring open Summer Food Programs at eight (8) Cedar Rapids school locations this summer. Operating open sites means any child age 18 and under is able to stop in for a free breakfast and lunch. Dates for summer meals are based on our partnership with Kids On Course University and the Boys & girls Club Cedar Rapids with most sites opening June 17th and running through August 2nd or 9th. Attached is a copy of a poster you will receive in the mail along with a News Release from the Boys & Girls Club.
