Student Activities Coordinator's Monthly Update


Winter athletics has begun with games/meets scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 19. Schedules will be posted on very soon. Unfortunately spectators will not be permitted to attend any of our regular season games. All of our girls/boys basketball games, gymnastics meets, and wrestling matches will be live streamed through the NFHS Network. The cost for a monthly subscription is $10.99 and an annual subscription is $69.99. Visit for more information.

Fall sports conditioning is slated to begin Tuesday, January 19. More information if forthcoming. Students must have a current sports physical dated after May 1, 2020 in order to participate. Fall sports consists of Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, and Volleyball.

National Honor Society meeting January 19 at 2:30pm. Mrs. Siock will reach out to all current NHS members with meeting information.

Student to Student (S2S) will meet Wednesday, January 12 at 2:05pm via Zoom. If you are interested in joining, then email Mrs. Thompson, , for the Schoology code.

Thespians and Drama Club will be meeting in the coming weeks to begin planning virtual productions for the Spring semester, as well as our entry into the 2020/2021 VHSL One Act Play competition, which will be virtual this year as well. The Thespians have also recently completed their new officer elections for the 2020/2021 school year. Elizabeth T. was elected Thespian President. Also, Elisa M. was chosen as Vice President, and Emma G. as Thespian Secretary. We will be making the best of things with virtual shows until it is safe to perform in front of live audiences in the school’s theatre spaces again.

Yearbook will meet Tuesday, January 12 at 2:05pm via Zoom. If you are interested in joining, then email Mrs. Thompson, , for the Schoology code.

Important Yearbook Reminders for Seniors: If you did not take your senior portrait before winter break as instructed, it is imperative you do so during January if you want to ensure you are in the yearbook. If you took your portrait with Prestige of Lifetouch, be sure to select which picture you want printed in the yearbook. You should have received an email from Prestige allowing you to do this. If you did not receive the email, fill out the form linked HERE and let us know which picture you would prefer, or one will be chosen for you. For yearbook, we can only use pictures of you wearing the appropriate tux or drape and featuring a blue background. For questions, contact Mrs. Bell or Mrs. Thompson. If you took your portrait with another studio, be sure to have them send us a digital file of your selected picture (640px x 800 px minimum) before January 31. Black History Month T-Shirt Pre-Orders

Our Black History Month Committee has been hard at work planning this year’s celebration. Our theme this year is “The Family Reunion: Bringing Us Back Together Again.” We will be taking pre-orders for shirts beginning Monday, January 11th. All orders must be received with payment no later than Tuesday, January 26th. Shirts are $10/each and are available in sizes S-5X. Orders can be placed using this form.

Reflections Contest

Students in Pre-K through grade 12, and a special artist division, are able to create theme-based artwork in dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography or visual arts. This year's theme is, "I Matter Because . . ." Please encourage your students to participate. You can find more information about the program here.

Senior Portraits

Seniors can sign up to take their senior portrait with Prestige Lifetouch. The link to schedule an appointment is on our school website. Click Our School, then Eagle News, and scroll down until you see Class of 2021. Seniors are encouraged to have their portrait done before winter break to ensure they are in the yearbook. Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held virtually on Thursdays in 20-minute increments from 2:05 to 3:05 p.m. The dates for the first term are: 1/7 and 1/21.

Please Log Your Volunteer Hours!

VBCPS values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS. Volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Serving in a PTA/PTO/PTSA

  • Serving as tutors, mentors or guest speakers

  • Providing assistance in classrooms, cafeterias, libraries or main offices

  • Organizing student enrichment and recognition activities

  • Supporting special events, athletics, school planning councils and advisory boards

Please be sure to log your volunteer hours through the VBCPS Get Connected database. VBCPS uses this information to quantify the value of volunteer service and apply for divisionwide federal grants that benefit our schools and students!
