November Coffee & Conversation session
Our next Coffee & Conversation session for parents will take place 12-1pm on Monday, November 29th. Our Staff Development teacher, Ms. Spencer, will be discussing the different features of FOCUS through parent-access, and our Reading Specialist, Ms. Hoer, will review digital learning tools First in Math and RazKids. Please remember that for now, these remain virtual meetings that you can join using your student's BCPS credentials via Google Meet with the meeting code: norwoodfamilies
November ELA Unit Overviews for Families
Here are the unit overviews for November in reading/writing by grade level. The first newsletter of the month will focus on Math while the second newsletter of the month will cover English Language Arts (ELA). These unit overviews are useful tools for the family to look over together and help manage expectations for your child prior to starting a new unit.
Fall 2021 Parent/Teacher Conferences for Students
We apologize for any challenges caused by the recent expansion of our Thanksgiving Break to now include Wednesday, November 24th. The intention was to keep scheduled times the same and simply shift them over to Tuesday, November 23rd. We recognize that for some, this may not have been possible. If you still are unsure as to when your conference is scheduled for, please reach out to your child’s teacher immediately. Also, keep in mind that parents have the right to schedule a conference with their child’s teacher anytime, not just during the Fall conferences. Simply talk to your child’s teacher if you would prefer to meet on a different day or time after the Thanksgiving Break.
2021-2022 Americanism Essay Contest
Each year, the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) of the Maryland Department sponsors an Americanism Essay Contest for students in grades 3 - 8. The contest is now currently open and accepting submissions until January 31st. Grades will be divided into three main groups, and there will be three awards granted in each group. First place winners from each department will be sent to the national competition. This year's essay title: "How can we support families who provide care to their Veterans?"
To enter, please download and print out the cover sheet (seen below), and use the included checklist on the cover sheet to ensure that all the appropriate steps have been completed. A parent needs to also fill out the bottom portion of the cover sheet with all the information requested, including a signature from the child's teacher. For more information about the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Maryland, please visit their website at http://www.alamd.org
Message from the nurse about Change of Clothing & Clothing Donations
If anyone is going through their closets and would like to donate any extra clothing that you no longer need, we are in need of boys and girls elastic waist pants (any size), but ESPECIALLY for sizes 4-10. Also, any underwear (either new or in good condition) would also be appreciated. Please remember to send a change of clothes to be kept in your child's locker for emergencies. We do not always have on-hand the size that they may need in an emergency.
