Now Showing/Coming Attractions
- Building & grade level Counselors attended the Missouri School Counselors Association Fall Conference. We are excited to share information from the sessions we attended.
- Grade level Counselors are continuing monthly classroom lessons.
- 6th Grade-Lesson will focus on kindness & empathy among peers.
- 7th Grade-Problem Solving 101-Students will explore how their values and identified strengths can be used to address conflict. Students will also practice identifying the size of problems and appropriate strategies to better manage experienced difficult situations.
- 8th Grade-Continuing to navigate and understand values. Beginning to explore career pathways and how our skills, values, and interests play a role in our chosen career pathway.
- Counseling aide and interns have met with the small groups focusing on being a "Confident Me". These small groups include students from all grade levels.
- Building level counselor is wrapping up the co-facilitated book club with the Librarian for a group of 8th grade students. The next student book club will be for 6th grade boys starting next semester. The book study with school counselors around the region is off to a great start.
- Counseling department is gearing up for some exciting career exploration events happening this year for our students. We are actively looking for parent volunteers to be presenters and unique career focused field trip locations.
- Full Counseling department completed lesson series with Math Intervention classes.
- Counseling aide & interns will be presenting during statesmen time on team 8-Unity.

| Fall Break Food Baskets Each year the Counseling Department partners with Hixson families and staff to support families in need with a fall break meal basket. We hope to provide 30 meal baskets to Hixson families in need. Here is a link to our sign up if you are able to make a donation. Career Exploration Events
We are seeking volunteers for our exciting career events during the last week of school. Each grade level will have a unique career focused event.
- 7th Graders will participate in three presentations relevant to their career interest inventory results. If you are interested in volunteering to be a presenter please complete the information in this link.
- 8th Graders will be traveling to several locations relevant to their career interest inventory results. If you connected with a unique location that could host large groups of students please complete the information in this link.

Each week we will highlight how a member of the Counseling Department takes care of themselves with focused self care.
This week we are highlighting one of our interns Gini Ford. Gini's self-care practices are focused on gratitude journaling and yoga. She finds this practice is helpful during challenging seasons of life.
Gini shared the following prompts as a helpful way to start your gratitude practice:
- Three things that make you special
- Three people you are grateful for and why
- Three simple things you are grateful for
- A challenging experience that made you stronger
- Three ways to inject gratitude into a current challenge
Mindful Moment
This week we highlighted Mrs. Ford's love of yoga and gratitude practice. Mrs. Ford shared two yoga videos that focus on gratitude for your mindful moment this week. She hopes this experience will help you refocus and remember the positives in your life.
